Apple iPhone - iphone 4 Black-out

My iPhone4 was fully charged. it was completely black-out and would not turn on (bricked?)I used it maybe 2 to 3 hours after it was fully charged. Finally, I plugged it to the wall charger and about 3 minutes later I hold both (power and home key for about 10 seconds. Shortly after that I saw the apple logo and started the charge. Battery was 86% full.

Why is this happened? Does anybody experience this? Should I be concern?

The iPhone is a computer it is possible you have an app or combination of apps that conflicted with the OS or the OS itself had "Blue Screened" and froze - just like any computer can freeze for no apparent reason...

Can't sync with Outlook calendar

When I sync my iPhone 4 with my computer, the Outlook contacts sync, but the calendar doesn't. Anyone have any suggestions for how to fix this? I also wish I could get the iPhone to sync with Outlook tasks and notes. My old iPhone 3 did sync with calendar and notes, but never with tasks.

iPhone It should be on the Info tab when you plug the iPhone in - no way to sync Tasks that I am aware of but Calendars and Notes sync.

I am getting my first iPhone on Saturday. It will be the iPhone 4. Is there any particular reference place you would send someone to study up on a new phone? I have owned other smart phones (BlackBerry, Palm, Windows) and am just making the switch to a phone that can fully support good apps.

I am also interested in learning how to sync some programs to my pc desktop by wifi. I am curious about what bluetooth stereo headsets work well with the iPhone.

This should be clearer but it seems not to be available unless you have an iPhone 4. I've installed 4.2.1 on my 3GS but I get "Device Not Supported" when I try to register.

So it seems. As I don't have a 4, but do have a device (3GS) that can run 4.2.1, it seems to be an unnecessary limitation. (I've never been tempted by .mac or mobileme because of the price.)

I have a 3 GS And a paid MobileMe subscription but locating the phone is not working. When asked to retype in my password that I just used to sign into my account (and can read emails and contacts) it returns the error -password not valid. That is just for the find my phone.

I am going to call support just wanted to give them some time with all the questions they having about 4.2!! And the holiday rush.

Does anyone else have this problem?Strange that I can access all the other components of mobile me without a hitch. I have tried my iTunes Password and the password to the phone itself.

I can locate my phone when I use the find my phone app on the phone but what good is that? ;-0

Where are you getting the error at - remove the MMe account on your phone and readd with full email address (it used to put @me.com in automatically, it now requires that you enter it since anyone with any email address can access Find My iPhone).

Same thing for me.com and the Find My iPhone App the user id is the full email address including @me.com and the same password you always used.

I have boys - 5, 8, and 11. They like Plants vs. Zombies, Uno, Bejeweled, and Ragdoll Blaster (our current favorite - we have the free first version and the payed second version). Lego Creationary has just come out (and it's free), but I haven't tried it out yet. My rule is that they have to do a set of math flash cards before they can play a game. I use Flash To Pass Lite where they can practice, + -
x / facts.

The only problem is they want to play with my phone all of the time! I don't like to give it up ;-).

You may do that always.. The apps work well..

But when you connect your iphone to your computer via itunes, the phone will be sync all your apps from your phone to your computer as its first task....

My wife has iPhone 3g. She would like to have the phone vibrate only when a new text comes in. Is there a way to do this? She has the audio setting as "none" for texts and doesn't want an audible alert for them.

That's what we have it on currently but it is completely silent, including no vibration. I'm wondering if vibrate is even activated at all on texts. After thinking about it, I don't recall it vibrating on texts when I had a 3G or with my current i4.

I have managed to mount my Griffin iPhone mount nicely to the top of my airbag, using just Velcro strips to hold the uppermost part of the Griffin mount. Works a treat!

But now that I have a nice hands free mount that I can Voice control dial and receive incoming phone calls (top of airbag on the steering is a perfect distance), I started to wonder how nice it would be if Apple would extend the Accessibility text-to-speech feature (which is clear and fast) so that a setting would cause incoming text message to simply pop up as they do but be immediately spoken. And even better if tapping the SMS ballon would cause it to repeat the spoken text. That would be a practical compromise allowing much safer messaging than being tempted to read a text message, which we all know is unsafe. There's no way to really avoid messaging completely but it needs to be safer and not require mental focus on the phone. the audio focus seems to be acceptable, like having someone talking in the car.

And I think the same technique could be applied to mail, but with some means for selecting which email folders that would use audio to reduce clutter, (my boss and my wife, for example). I'd like to see the audio enabled email folder opened, the email spoken and the email headers in that folder used to cause any mail to respoken by tapping the header.

This minimal level of physical interaction with the phone seems acceptable to me.

Any one with ideas about this?

Besides the legal ramifications (hands-free or not, some police officers are likely to write a ticket for texting while driving where it is not allowed), mounting your iPhone or any device on the airbag is incredibly dangerous. If the airbag inflates, that iPhone (or other device) is going to slam you in the chest with a LOT of force.

The whole point of the post is to suggest an audio based way to deal with incoming msgs, unless you disable SMS every time you get in the car. I've found that car mounts which are fixed at an uncomfortable distance are a greater hazard than what I described and a terrible distraction because of the visually intense nature of the iPhone.

IMO the best (safest) way to go is EBay. The protections in place protect both parties. The prices are equal to or even higher than most other buyers. EBay is where I sold my 3G. EBay even will help you set starting price based on the average sales prices of Devices like yours in the recent past.

Problems with airprint

Just updated to 4.2. I have a wireless HP 8500 e printer. I can access it from the iphone with the HP printer app. I tried airprint but it doesn't detect the printer. I followed the directions from Wolverine to enable airprint on a Windows Vista 32 bit laptop. I think I did it correctly as I got the command line displaying a create service SUCCESS and when i started the service I got the list of properties for the
service below the start on the command window. (hope I am explaining it correctly) The only thing that didn't occur was that I don't use windows firewall so allowing access wasn't asked. My Zonealarm firewall had the service as trusted and allowed access.

However when I go to print something through airprint on the iphone I still get no printers found.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this puppy working. The hp print app is great for pdfs and jpegs. It doesn't print any other format. Can't believe it doesn't do .doc files or email. Airprint would be so convenient

I figured it out. I thought that creating the windows airprint service would allow the phone to see the network printer. It doesn't. I created the service on my desktop with a dedicated USB photoprinter and all almost went well. The service was created but even though I ran the command line as administrator it would not let me start the service automatically.

So I created a shortcut to the desktop of airprint.exe and manually started it as administrator and the service started.

I went to the iphone chose the print option and almost instantaneously the photoprinter showed up!!! I printed an email quickly and correctly. I am disappointed that I can't use my network printer however (except through
the iphone HP iprint app).

Did you try to access your network printer before installing/setting up the AirPrint service? I was under the impression that AirPrint would use WiFi (HP)printers with no set up.

Yes I did. I can access the printer through three computers - 2 laptops and my desktop. I can also access the printer through the HP iprint app on the iphone. airprint doesn't see it at all. I think the only HP printers that airprint directly works with are the models with a C in their number.

I am using an 8500 eprint (really like it by the way). I can send an email attachment to the printer from the iphone in a pinch to print other formats I guess!!

iTunes unable to back up iPhone

When syncing my iPhone to my Windows Vista PC I now receive a message "iTunes could not back up the iPhone because the backup could not be saved on the computer. "

Can anyone tell me what to do to resolve this issue so I can then proceed in upgrading to the iOS 4.2 software?

I have had this problem. It seems a file in the backup got corrupted. Delete the current backup (move to a folder to keep in a safe place), A fresh backup will be made when you connect your phone to the computer again.

Backup can be found in your user name/ application data/ roaming/ applecomputer/ mobile sync/ Backup.

click on the backup folder to see another folder with many numbers and letters - move that to another place.

You should now have no problem saving another clean backup although it will take longer to create as it has no files it can skip because there are no former ones there.

This happens to me almost every update. If it's the same problem I keep having with my PC, try this. Go into your Control Panel and select Programs and Features. When you see, in the list, iTunes, right click it. Then click Repair. After it gets repaired things start to work.

This is getting so routine for me that I do this while I'm downloading the update. And be sure to download the update only and not Download&Install.

Why? Cheap insurance that you get it to your PC safely.

Then when the window pops up showing what was downloaded, double click the file with the latest date (I would assume any one of these files would start the install process though) to start the installation process which will take many minutes. Good Luck!

PS: I really don't know why I have to go through this crazy process to install iTune updates. It shouldn't be like this. But such that it is...I do it and it works.

You have to unhide hidden files to get to application data files. I have windows vista also. Open documents, go to organize in upper left hand corner. click on folder and search options, click on view tab. About 6 check marks down is Hidden files and folders Click on show hidden files. Now you should see application data under your name. This protection is so someone doesn't mess things up if they don't know what they are doing.

Software unlocking is what phones that are locked to say AT&T have to do in order ot use them on T-Mobile - it 'unlocks' the base band / modem firmware to work on another carrier.

If you bought a hardware unlocked phone, which I believe is what is available in just about every other country than the US - upgrading will not change that.

Recently, my iPhone 4 is asking me for a password for my voicemail. I never used a password for my voicemail and I do not have one. However, it is annoying that this box asking me for my voicemail password pops up all the time. Does anybody know how to get rid of it? Thanks in advance.

Try 1234 or the last 4 digits of your phone # if neither of those work you can log into att.com and reset your password or call their customer service # and use the automated password reset reature to something then enter the new password.

Voice mail can ONLY be accessed with a password. Your voice mail had a "default" password when you setup your number/account with AT&T (or which ever carrier you have). if you did not "setup" your voice mail then it still had the default..I'm not sure what that is, for some reason I thought it was, at least at some point, "1111". As sugested it could be "1234". You use the default password to sign on the first time and then change it to your own password.

This happened all the time with my 3G, and I figured out it was whenever I moved from a no- or low-service area into one with stronger service (in the staff restroom where I work, thus happens every time I move an inch).

When I got my iPhone 4, the problem was not there. Then I had another technical problem with the phone, Apple replaced it, and now the issue is back. I just live with it.

If you are on a Mac and you are trying to delete the photos from your iphone that you have, you can connect your iphone to your Mac via the USB cable and open iPhoto. The option to import a selected few or all is given and also the option to delete the imported files from your iphone is also given.

My 3rd gen iTouch does not have a microphone. You can maybe plug one in (ie, telephony headset for Skype, etc), I haven't tried, but the device itself does not have one.

I found the same thing with my iPhone 4 starting right after iOS 4.1. I have found if I turn my iPhone completly off for at least :30 to 1:00 and back on (so it can re-register with the network) I have much better performance. Give it a try.

I tryed that on my Win 7 machine and it still wants both. So I turned on the Guest Account & now my printer is unlocked and does not ask for a password. That does require you to select which account at start up, but doesn't require a sign on. Personal choice I guess.

However ever since the new app came out I can log into my mobile me account but when it asks for me to reenter my password it says it is incorrect. I have tried multiple times for 3 days thinking all the upgrading etc just put a stress on the mobile me server, but now I not so sure. I manually typed in the password and tried cut and paste incase I may have been spazzing out.

Is there a alternate way to locate my phone from a laptop or computer? I do have find my phone in settings on the phone enabled. I tried using my itunes password no luck.

Have tried that as well ;-(. Another poster notes that many are having my problem. I tried the @mac.com login but I get to my account but again the reenter password doesn't get accepted.

As the poster suggested - wait til apple figures out what is wrong at their servers.

I just wanted to be sure it wasn't something I was absentmindedly forgetting.

I would remove the account completely and readd if you still can't get in, contact MMe support - I had problems on first day but once I tried twice, used full account address with @me.com and it worked fine...

Just tried removing the account and reentering everything. No dice. I will have to contact support. Maybe it is not working as I have not updated to 4.2 yet. I am still on 4.1. I was waiting til I had more time if I ran into problems.

Apple iPhone - accuweather quick app

I'm currently using the 99cent version of Accuweather..I believe its called Accuweather quick.I was curious if anyone else who is using this could answer the question as to where the odd location names come from when you click on the current location it gives you a odd name ..just curious.

I started an update to 4.2 and came back to a white Apple with a solid white bar below.

Only way to shut it off is power and menu buttons together. Powering back on takes it to an Apple and a hollow white bar that slowly fills up again in a vicious circle.

Presuming you already have the correct (latest) version of iTunes, my advice would be - once you have started upgrading the iOS - don't interrupt the process by shutting down or rebooting until the process finishes.

On my iPhone 4, once the iOS download finished, the upgrade process took around 15 minutes.

If you almost never connect to iTunes and backup, your process is likely to take longer - possibly a LOT longer.

It sounds like you never completed the upgrade. You have to let the firmware install and then you should see the home screen. It took me about 10 minutes. It will depend on how fast a connection you have when downloading.

loading movies on ip4

Apple iPhone - loading movies on ip4

i copied a movie from a dvd to my pc which runs windows.i tried adding this
movie to my itunes lib,but it doesnt show up in the lib.

Am i doin something wrong? does the movie need to be in a specific format to be
added to the lib?

Would be glad to know how to load movies to itunes and then sync them to my
iphone.

Yes you do need to reformat the movie and I have done this successfully with Cucusoft iPhone video converter as well Handbrake. Both programs work well and have instructions for the procedure. I found Cucusoft even easier.
