iPhone, AppleCare

I just received an email trying to sell me applecare for my 1 year old Iphone 4. $69. Is it worth it? I will probably buy an iphone 5 when it comes out in sept. What do you all think?

Apple iPhone warrantyApple iPhone

Personally, I would buy a SquareTrade warranty instead - http://www.squaretrade.com/pages/iphone-landing24?ccode=bs_war_vc_023:tii&cpn=WI\
ZZARD25&tii=1

-----

Don't buy it.

-----

I feel that Applecare is worth it. I have it for my iPhone 4. The only thing with SquareTrade is that you might be without a phone for a few days. With Applecare, you can bring it to the nearest Apple store and most of the time get a replacement on the spot.

-----

Last time I purchased AppleCare it was because Apple provided next day advance exchange of the phone at no charge, extended tech support, and a free battery replacement.

-----

But you will likely get a replacement on the spot at the Apple store even if you don't have AppleCare. That's my experience. And why I won't buy it.

-----

For people living overseas where there is no official apple store, how does apple care works. I am in Saudi Arabia, there is an apple representative who have earlier replaced super drive on my MBP as it was under warranty. Does any body have any experience or info re how Apple Care works in such situations or is it just USA thing

-----

As I explained in another thread, I live 100 miles away from the nearest Apples store.

And what about tech support after 90 days and battery after a year?

-----

The warranty on the iPhone 4 covers defects in materials and workmanship for 1 year. Applecare extends that to 2 years.

-----

And if you go to the Apple Store after one year they will likely still replace without a AppleCare warranty. It's worked for me several times already.

Iphone 4 vs others

Since today Apple is coming out with unlocked iphone and since i have been waiting a long time for an unlocked version of it I am ready to buy a smartphone and get rid of the Verizon that is totally useless overseas. How does the iphone 4 32 GB ($749.00)compare to others like HTC. Or should I wait for unlock version of iphone 5 which is suppose to come out this coming fall. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Apple iPhoneApple iPhone

The iPhone 5 will be out but it will not be sold unlocked in the US until a year later. They do this every year to sell inventory before the next model.

-----

I read somewhere today that it is unlocked but it will not work on Verizon, Sprint or T-Mobile. It is still tied to AT&T for updates.

-----

I could not find the article that I read earlier but here is one that says it may do what you want overseas.

http://goo.gl/bndk9

-----

It is the GSM model which will only work on T-Mobile as EDGE not 3G (never has) and internationally. There is no reason to sell an unlocked CDMA device as the only other US carrier would be Sprint and they wouldn't activate it (not as simple as putting a SIM in). I guess some off the 'local' networks like MetroPCS, etc would use it but they will activate any Verizon phone for $50 so there is no need to pay $649/$749.

-----

Here is another good artice about the unlocked iPhone.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/230302/apples_unlocked_iphone_not_as_magical_as_i\
t_seems.html

-----

Since Verizon and Sprint do not use GSM, I under stand that, but why not T-Mobile?

-----

I was quoting the artice from memory which I should not do but here goes again. The unlocked iPhone will work on T-Mobile but only have edge service on data. It would be a waste to put an $800 phone on T-Mobile.

-----

OK, It works, but not with full functionality, if you can get the correct SIM from them. Now I understand.

iPhone 4 'anomalies'

My wife & I got our iPhone4's in Dec. They work very well. I did have mine replaced when the dock button began to fail (had to hit it several times to get it to work).

However, hers has been displaying two kinds of issues recently and I'm seeking your feedback.

First, it's become very 'sensitive' when she is talking on the phone. Frequently, having her face near the screen activates the mute button, ends the call or dials someone else. It didn't seem to do this for her at first but it's been doing it for a month or so. I never have this problem.

Second, in the past day or so, it issues a camera click sound when it's powered on or off. Never did that before. Same 'click' you hear when you take a picture. Power off from the button on the top, it 'clicks'. Turn it on, from either the dock button or the top power button, it clicks.

Any thoughts about either?

We're about to take this unit back to the Apple store, unless there are simple solutions.

Apple iPhoneApple iPhone

The first shouldn't happen unless she is using speakerphone or a bluetooth headset, when the phone is set to 'normal' (iPhone from a list of Speakerphone, iPhone, and any BT devices) the proximity sensor should kick in when it goes near her face and actually when anything covers it, easy enough to test just place a phone call and put finger/hand over the sensors near the front facing camera.

The second issue sounds like normal activity, you can turn the notification sounds (clicks) off or on in Settings > General > Sounds > Lock Sounds > Off or turn off all sounds by flipping the silent switch above the volume buttons. There isn't a selection to turn the camera sound off unless you flip the silent switch as it is illegal in some countries to take pictures without a notification sound.

-----

Try Settings/sounds down at the bottom.

-----

Number 1:
I remember reading about an issue where the proximity sensor failed to turn off the screen functions when the phone was held up to the user's face. So this has been a problem recognized and addressed by Apple, but I am not sure whether the resolution was in software or in a hardware replacement. So:

Number 2:
If you haven't already, upgrade to the most current firmware. Connect the phone to the computer, make sure all the data and images on the phone are backed up on the computer (if you're not sure how to, ask back here again), and, in iTunes, with the phone connected and selected on the left, click on "Check for Update" on the right.

Number 3:
If your firmware is up to date, and the problem persists, my next step would be a reset — press both the Home button on the face of the phone and the On/Off button on the top and hold them until the white Apple appears, then let it complete the re-boot.

Number 4:
If the problem is still present, go to the Apple Store.

-----

Thanks for the help on both issues, all!

Regarding the 'click' sound on power on/off, it was the settings/sound that had been toggled on. Neither of us did it intentionally. Let's see if it toggles again, seemingly on it's own.

Regarding the sensitivity when on the phone, we'll check the proximity sensor and see if there is a problem. The iOS is the most up to date and we have done many resets since it started.

-----

If you have the sound toggled off of the camera shutter sound, it should stay that way unless you adjust it.

-----

I have an iPhone 3GS and also get the "camera click" when it powers down. Have not investigated the situation yet...whether it is an error, normal or something you can turn on / off.

New iPhone hotspot is a bust!!

I just downloaded the new OS for the iPhone and I had seen that there was a way you could use your phone as a hotspot. I went into settings to do this ( I have a iPad wifi only) and the app said to contact AT&T. So I did. And guess what they told me? That I needed to change my plan from unlimited ( I was grandfathered in because I have had every iPhone since day 1) to a limited data package!! So basically for me to use my Internet for 2 devices I have to change my unlimited data plan to limited! I said no and hung up. I'll be honest I am about to drop AT&T after 13 years!!

Apple iPhone NewApple iPhone

-----

You have the best deal that can be had on data with the AT&T grandfathered unlimited data. I would not give that up just because you do not like their tethering plan. The rules you describe have been that way since tethering was introduced. Where I live, there are more AT&T wifi hotspots everyday. I just use one of those for my iPad.

-----

I'm curious, does anybody know: Does AT&T charge extra for tethering with their other phones? Or is it just the iPhone?

-----

All phones have always required $20 extra for tethering, the difference is that you used to be able to add it to the unlimited $30/mo data plan, now you have to give up unlimited plan and move to 2GB $25 plan and pay an additional $20 for 2GB of tethering data.

-----

"Unlimited" is going the way of the dodo-bird.

Even "wired" (cable) companies are trying to figure out how to handle -- charge for-- based on usage for hi-use accounts (e.g. the 24-hr streamers).

I don't know if there are unltd plans for other ATT phones or other carriers for whatever phones, but I don't think you'll be able to get them much longer, with or without any tethering options. Anything grandfathered my expire at some point with a new device or whatever.

-----

One thing has always bothered me about this hotspot idea. I've seen the commercials, someone turns their phone into a hot spot, and complete strangers within range start using the hotspot.

Nice idea - seems generous to give people wifi access, warm fuzzy feeling. But in real life - I don't see this happening:

(1) People are using your bandwidth. Even if you are on an unlimited plan, it will slow your access down. If you aren't on unlimited, you are paying for the megabytes they use. NOT a good idea to give somebody a "blank check" like that!

(2) Consider legal liability / privacy / issues. Suppose stranger 1 is looking at child porn. Stranger 2 is trying to access your bank account. Stranger 3 is an Al Quaida sleeper and is downloading dirty bomb instructions. Stranger 4 is downloading as many copyrighted movies as they can from illegal download sites.

Think you aren't responsible because you gave these clowns access? The guy clearing out your bank account is the least of your worries ----

(3) Just how much bandwidth can you squeeze through one cell phone? Probably not much. Everybody slows to a crawl on your mini wi-fi network, and everybody drops when the cell drops.

It just seems like a bad idea all around. Even from home - what are the neighbors in other houses doing? You better secure that mini wi-fi hotspot, or chaos may ensue!

-----

I haven't tried it, because I don't want to $pend that kind of money myself, but I would be very surprised if the hotspot software did not allow for encryption and passwords to prevent random access.

-----

Encryption is the default mode. In fact, you CAN'T have it on in "open" mode.

-----

Yea. That is what the story is.

But is there a iPhone with verizon that has unlimited and will allow hotspot?

-----

-----

Yeah - once T-Mobile merger is done and if T-Mobile still offers unlimited, I may see if I can use my GSM iPhone on T-Mobile somehow. Probably yes once T-Mobile gets the iPhone.

I can just see it happening - next upgrade they will try to hit me with limited plans.

-----

My Rogers 3G gives me 5 Mbps download and 3 Mbps uplaods. My home internet connection is 10Mbps down and 512 Kbps uplaod.

(3) Just how much bandwidth can you squeeze through one cell phone? Probably not much. Everybody slows to a crawl on your mini wi-fi network, and everybody drops when the cell drops.

White phone

So I'm trying to order a new iPhone thru Apple, but they want a $36 activation fee. I think the $18 at ATT is nutsy since I paid that "one time activation fee" already. Likely more than once. Suggestions ?
-----

18 dollars is less than 36 dollars. And get used to it. We all pay it. That's the price of upgrading to a new phone. Otherwise if you don't want to pay it, don't upgrade.

-----

" one time activation fee " per phone. It's just the way it is.

-----

Yes, but often times the store will offer to waive it, or you can ask.

Not sure about after the fact.

-----

When I got my first iPhone bill, I called ATT & did get the "upgrade" fee removed -- but then, I was a *new* customer, not at all upgrading but rather jumping over from VZ.

Call ATT when you get the bill, or even sooner if you can. It can't hurt to try!

The sales staff can't do everything the service-reps can. I also had to get my phone from an ATT store since Apple didn't know anything about the Senior Plan.

-----

Senior plan?

-----

It's a voice plan for the over-65 crowd. $10 less than the least expensive "regular" plan, fewer minutes, no rollover.

I had to sign up for it in person & provide proof of age.

-----

Thanks, got a couple years to go, but it doesn't sound like it's worth $10...

-----

I was curious as well.

-----

They also have a 15% discount for veterans.

How to turn off safari when not wanted

prob 1: How to turn off safari when not wanted.
I don't want to pay for the band width/minutes that safari uses every time it logs in. I only need it twice a year.

Prob 2: Also it appears to be down loading msgs and not leaving on server so that I can read on Macs.
-----

Go into your mail settings and tell it to leave on the server or do not delete. Consider switching from POP to IMAP if your service provider has it.

-----

Check your mail settings on your devices (settings-mail-account-advanced).

Safari on iPhone

On my iPhone 3GS, how do I clear all browsing history in Safari. (Think I've found that, but it doesn't seem to work; the same dumb movie keeps coming back every time I launch Safari.) And, how do I clear the cache and any cookies? It's simple in Safari on the Mac, History in the menu bar, then clear.

In Firefox, there's a Tool>Clear all history which includes browsing, cache and cookies.

Also, is there any other security feature on the iPhone that I should be aware of?

-----

If the same movie comes back each time you launch safari, hit the "new window" button in the lower right-hand corner of the screen, then hit the X on the window that hosts the video.

-----

Hit the double box icon at the bottom right and the x the page out.

-----

Same topic - is there a way to refresh Safari without going to the top?

-----

If you tap the top bar (where the time is displayed), Safari (and many other apps) will instantly scroll to the top of the page, where a single additional tap will trigger a reload.

-----

In the Settings > Safari scroll down and tap clear History, clear cookies and clear cache.

When in Safari, tap on bookmark icon, then keep tapping on the bookmark tab, until you reach the History folder icon, tap on it. You should see a Clear History button.

Tracking File Found in iPhones

Apple iPhone waterproofApple iPhoneYou probably have already seen this but if not hear it is again.

Here is a disturbing article in the NYT about apple recording your location to a hidden file on both the iPhone and iPad. There is a link in the article where you can down load a program to map your movements.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/21/business/21data.html?nl=todaysheadlines&emc=th\a26

Maybe it's time to switch to an Android

A google phone likely to have the same or more data tracking on it. Google is all about gathering user data on their PCs, why not in the software of their phones.

-----

The same company that found the file said that they tested Android phones (and most other smartphone brands) and found nothing similar. This is literally unprecedented. It's the kind of thing that could
result in lawsuits.

-----

I would join if it was a class action lawsuits.

-----

Might be some attempts but it is in the Terms of Service that everyone with an iPhone or 3G iPad agreed to - the file is not on iPod touches or WiFi iPads, it is not transmitted to anyone just stored on the phone and included in backups BUT it is in a paragraph of the TOS so it will be tossed out of any lawsuits as "you should have read it and not agreed to it if you didn't want to store the data".

-----

Probably true; however, given the public relations debacle that this is, I'm guessing any suit would be settled quickly. The FCC has already said they're looking into this and Congress is apparently making inquiries. They will want to bury this ASAP. Remember, a lot of politicians own iPhones (and Crackberries). The quickest way to get on the legislative radar is to do something stupid with your technology that directly impacts the security of the leaders of the country.

-----

BTW, here is one of the letters sent from Congress:
http://www.franken.senate.gov/files/letter/110420_Apple_Letter.pdf

-----

Blackberries have a function built in that can also track your where-abouts. I see it turned on my work blackberry issued to me and I'm sure for everyone else given one at work. I have to suspect work Mgmt has access to that data if they need it, as well as the Gov't.

-----

Bury it in small print in the Terms of Service agreement that apple sends out all the time, If I don't comb through it like a lawyer then it's my fault.

The big question is why is apple doing it. I do not want apple to be able to track me that is just creepy. I thought if there was one company I could trust to do the right thing it was apple. I guess they have joined the ranks of large corporations that think they can do anything they want. That is very disappointing. I have been an Apple supporter from the first time they made a computer. I may have to rethink that support.

-----

Wasn't the purpose of tracking for location-based services like restaurants, ads and coupons?

I am certain that Google does this also. They are the leaders in advertising and for sure they have to be doing this somehow. If not yet I would be surprised. Expect it soon then.

-----

Again, no, Google does not do this. While Google and many other providers offer location based services, in all instances users must ASK to be tracked and can opt out at any time. Apples implementation tracks you by default, doesn't tell you they're tracking you, doesn't let you opt out, and stores information in cleartext that anyone with access to your phone or computer can read.

Read the articles. The "but everyone else is doing it" defense (if it can be called that) only applies if, you know, everyone else is actually doing it.

Given the negative PR tied to this, complete with FCC and congressional investigation, I highly doubt if any legit companies will be trying a stunt like this in the future.

-----

We've all seen this news by now - Apple (and presumably AT&T) are keeping track of my movements and creating a file where anyone can see those movements.
http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/04/20/3g-apple-ios-devices-secretly-storing-u\sers-location/?ref=technology

Just downloaded the iPhone Tracking File app and -- lo & behold -- there's a map showing where I've supposedly been in the past 20 months or so I've owned this 3GS iPhone. Here's the link to the app - http://petewarden.github.com/iPhoneTracker/

1. It's even got some places where I've been in the Arizona desert, the Mojave desert, Death Valley, and elsewhere in the boonies and used the iPhone on the AT&T cell network. But some of the places seem not to be where I've ever been -- Barstow and Ft Irwin, except driving through on I-15 and 1-40.

2. Is this "Wiretapping" within the meaning of California's Penal Code § 629 et seq? That's a criminal act. Maybe there are other criminal statutes involved.

3. Even if the Penal Code is not implicated, clearly this is a serious breach of my personal privacy. It is surely no business of Apple Corp or AT&T where I've been.

4. This is a terrible black eye to Apple. Whatever possessed Apple to put this thing on my iPhone? It's one thing if I knowingly use something like Foursquare or Facebook's Places, it's quite another to surreptitiously keep track of where I've been - spying on my movements.

To fix or not to fix?

Apple iPhoneApple iPhoneI currently have an iPhone 3gs. I recently, however, got my hands on an iPhone 4, in damaged condition. I was told it would cost $199 to fix, likely water damage(I have a $50 gift card I could use), but doing this I would have no contract. Is it worth it or should I buy a new or refurbished phone or wait for
the next model? What would YOU do?

Wait for the next model. If your iPhone 3Gs is in working condition, no sense sinking money into something when an even newer model is on the horizon.

-----

Either get an iPhone 4 (new or refurb is your choice) or wait for the iPhone 5 which looks like it will be Sept at this point.

Switching from Android to iPhone

Apple iPhone - Switching from Android to iPhone

Next week I am going to switch from Android to iPhone with Verizon wireless. I have had a Droid X and now have a Samsung Fascinate Galaxy.

Will I be able to save any of the Android os data to my iPhone? Is there a way to transfer from Android to PC to iPhone?

For example I am presently using RoboForm on my android and my PC. Will that info sync on the iPhone? What will I need to do to sync my iPhone with my Google Calendar?

iPhone
Apple iPhone
Sync or copy all your Android data to your computer.

iPhones sync using iTunes so you just need to set the sync prefs there. If you are not already using iTunes, it would be good to download and install it so you can get used to it *before* the iPhone arrives.

You can sync the iPhone with Google Cal. I don't do that but others here do. I'm sure they can advise.

-----
My iPhone syncs contacts, notes and I believe the calendar also with MS Outlook 2003...if the android can do, it should be it.

-----
Android natively syncs to Google and the iPhone can to, though it prefers to sync via iTunes to Outlook. For anything else, check the App Store within iTunes for applications that sync the data you want.

Roboform is in there.

Upgrade... my old iPhone?

Apple iPhone - If I upgrade... what do I do with my old iPhone?

I think I'm going to quit fighting it and upgrade to the iPhone 4 this week. I can't take this constant fight against a battery that goes out at 80%, plus I believe I "injured" the vibration mechanism in the phone - it doesn't happen anymore.

So... what do I do with my iPhone 3GS? I know people sell them, but what would I need to do first? Could I use it as just an MP3 player? Will it keep the 3G/Wireless like an iPod Touch, so I could use it for everything but the phone?

iPhone 4
Apple iPhone 4
Yes it works just like an iPod Touch but at this point we are ~90 days out from the iPhone 5 you might want to hold out...

-----
Is the iPhone 5 confirmed?

I'm even wondering about ditching the iPhone and going old-school, and getting an iPad instead.

-----
There has been a new iPhone in June every year since 2007...

-----
The verizon store here in my area, told me wait ,but that was for the new htc 4g phone. The android phone I had before the I phone locked up all the time. Apple makes the best phone there is. Jay Price

You will be able to use all the other apps calendar iPod but you will still have battery problems.

White iPhone releases

Apple iPhone - Release of the white iPhone

Hello, I just wonder if the white iPhone will ever be released I've been waiting for it since October and they kept postpone it. In December I've decided to order the black one because I've lost patient then my cousin told me to wait because it will be available in Feb for sure this time. So I said to my self since I've waited so long why not wait for a couple of months more. Today I've asked about it to know that they haven't released it yet. Will it ever be available now after all of this waiting? I wish that I've ordered the black one from the beginning and now I've decided to get the black one as I've lost every single hope that's left. What you think?

iPhone
Apple iPhone
The only one to listen to about when the white iPhone will be released is Steve Jobs.

-----
Go for a black one with white cover!!!!!

-----
I see that there will be a white iPad but I too have lost hope on the white iPhone4.

-----
I never waited for the white iPhone, but when I got my Mophie battery case that slips over my iPhone, I opted for the white or off-white case. I now have a white iPhone, sort of.

i Phone 5 coming soon?

Apple iPhone - i Phone 5 coming soon?

I have the option to get the iPhone 4 locked in for two years and since there's really no news about the iPhone 5 yet should I just go ahead and get the iPhone 4 or wait for the iPhone 5?

Apple iPhone 5
If Apple continue as they have in the past, the iPhone 5 will appear in Jun-Jul this year. How long can you wait? ;)

-----
I guess I can wait for a while. I'm really in no rush to get an iPhone. My 2 year old Nokia e63 still works well.

iPhone 5

Apple iPhone - iPhone 5

I'm debating about buying the iPhone 4 or waiting for the iPhone 5. Is it a sure thing that the iPhone 5 will be out this summer or is it still a rumor.

iPhone 5Apple iPhone 5 Until actually announced it will be just a rumor. That being said, Apple traditionally adheres to a general product release schedule which would put the iPhone 5 available in late second quarter or early third quarter.

-----
New iPhones shipped in June, 2007, in July, 2008, in June, 2009, and in June, 2010.

-----
So the iPhone 5 should be out in 5 months!!! I love my iPhone 4 so I don't know if I will upgrade right away. It's got to be a revolutionary change or I wait.

-----
So far, I've upgraded every year. Having a new phone basically funded by sale of the previous phone, I never have a phone out of warranty and a brand new battery each year. Oh ya, I get new features each time too... lol.

-----
I have a feeling, since the iPhone 4 has yet to be software unlocked and it is available on Verizon that we aren't going to be able to get as much this year. Not saying that a phone in good condition will not be worth at least the subsidized price we paid but I don't think we will be able to sell them at the higher prices this time....

-----
How do you sell your iPhone 5?

-----
I've sold them successfully both on Craig's List and on eBay. One person I sold via CL told me he'd been robbed by someone during a CL sale, so I usually offer to meet at the local Apple Store to validate the phone is in good shape, etc.

-----
I never considered selling my 3GS when I upgrade to 5 (at some point, hopefully this Summer). That's a great idea!

(1) May I please ask how much you were able to get for your 3GS?

(2) Also, what does one have to do to wipe out their phone before they are selling the phone to someone?

-----
I don't think the 3Gs will be worth much when the 5 comes out... It will be 2 model years old. I was going to keep mine as a backup since I think I've missed my window of opportunity. The used market will probably be significant on the 4 when the newer model debuts.

Now I was dumb to keep the 3Gs as I was holding out for the broken promise of a white one. Won't do that again...

-----
I believe I got around 350 for the phone, but that was almost a year ago. One of the best things to do is search recent completed listings on eBay for your model. It should give you an idea of what you can expect to get for it today. You can wipe the phone via Settings/General/Reset menu.

-----
Or pass it on to a friend or relative?

-----
how do work your contract? Do you have to add a line to get a new device or just extend for two more years?

-----
I guess I should have explained that better. I have 4 lines on my family plan with 2 usually renewing in alternate years, so each year I can use one of those eligibilities to get the new iPhone for my number.

The Continuously Dying iPhone 3GS

Apple iPhone - The Continuously Dying iPhone 3GS

I think it's time to start digging the hole.

My iPhone is about 18 months old. For the past couple months, it seems as though the battery is running shorter and shorter. I put my phone on the charger before bed, so I start the day at 100%. Throughout the workday, I have it on radio player that charges the phone.

Lately, though, I'll come home at 5:30 p.m. and have 100% charge on the phone... later on, it will be down around 90%... I'll play a few games, get on the web, etc... and anywhere from 34% to 58% (tonight), it dies on me.

Power on, takes longer than normal, and then back on.
For about ten seconds.

Repeat, repeat, repeat.

I have tried letting it sit while dead for several hours, hoping to calibrate the battery. I've tried the double-home-click to close all the apps. I've tried many things, but nothing seems to help.

So, is it time to call the family in for the funeral service??

iPhone New
Apple iPhone New
A friend of mine had that issue. She had never backed it up.

Took to apple store. They did restore and battery life got better

Not sure how. But that worked.

-----
A restore might help, but remember it will have the latest firmware installed on
it if you do so. (4.2.1)

-----
Is there any problem in getting the latest firmware? In Settings-> About it says I'm on Version 4.2.1 (8C148a).

The nearest Apple store is 90 minutes away. It's -1 today, high of 8. I may have to s*ck it up a bit until it warms up.

-----
A few thoughts -

If you leave apps running when you lock the phone, it will use up the battery. Shut down all apps before locking.

If you don't use the wi-fi, shut it off in settings. That wastes power.

Your radio player - is it designed specifically for the iPhone 3Gs? I have two useless "iHomes" that don't charge the iPhone, but do play through it. My car hookup also does not charge it for the same reason. I also have a car charger that doesn't work for the 3Gs. It is very likely your radio player doesn't charge it either.

Finally - if you are sure the battery is dead, and unless you just WANT to spend money on a new phone - go to one of those iPhone battery web sites, and spend under $10 for a new battery and the tool to open the phone. A 12 year old kid can change the battery - so you probably can, too.

If you are on 4.2.1 you have the latest fw for now, so no problem with an update.

Reducing brightness has certainly helped mine.

iphone yes or no ?

Apple iPhone - iphone yes or no ?

I'm currently with AT&T,and will be able to upgrade my phone selection in a couple months, what i'm wondering is the iphone really the best choice for a smart phone, i download a lot of music, i also use my phone as much if not more than my putar, also download videos form you tube, and other sorces, does the iphone do well with this, how about e mails, would i have any trouble viewing photos from people, or sending images.

Currently i have a sony ericson w760i, it is a good phone that served me well, but i feel i've out grown it, as most know the type of video that can be down loaded is limited, as well as e mail and such.

My wife has an HTC tilt, from AT&T wich shes very unhappy with, it does things like switch pages in the middle of an e mail and will lose the text for example, now were stuck with it untill the next upgrade for her, i don't want to make that mistake.

A friend i knew had a iphone and once told me she she wished she could get the Android, i think she couldn't do google searches, i'm not sure, but that's another question, can one do google or yahoo searches from an iphone, thats somthing else i do alot of .

The iPhone 4 will not only do all that you want but also blow your mind away.

Btw I love your stream of consciousness style of expression!

-----
Generally a new model of the iPhone is released in June, so if it will be a couple of months before you can upgrade your phone, perhaps you might want to wait a couple of months more and get the next model.

-----
Google searches do well on iPhone. Vocal searches using the google app work.

I know it's not a necessity and people do it different ways, but I think iPhone works best with an apple computer and a mobileme account.

iPhone 5

Apple iPhone - iPhone 5

Heard that iPhone 5 was in the way. Wonder what they could possibly add to it!

Mind reading?
Dual core processor?
Faster processor?
A non-conductive coating on the external antenna band?

-----
I'd settle for an external antenna connection for those of us in tough reception areas between cell towers or far from cell towers. I really don't think it is uncool to have an antenna sticking out. What isn't cool is dropped calls. A bit better antenna would be very welcome, even if it sticks out on the side or something.

My tin foil log periodic I've stuck on with tape inductively couples to a degree, but is too directional to be practical.

The iPhone is very popular possibly number one. The Blackberry seems to be falling in popularity, and the Android is somewhere in the top 3.

But then again, this is a iPhone list, so It id very popular with those on this list. There are rumors that the second largest service provider may pay a large fee to keep the next two providers from getting the iPhone.
