iPhone, AppleCare

I just received an email trying to sell me applecare for my 1 year old Iphone 4. $69. Is it worth it? I will probably buy an iphone 5 when it comes out in sept. What do you all think?

Apple iPhone warrantyApple iPhone

Personally, I would buy a SquareTrade warranty instead - http://www.squaretrade.com/pages/iphone-landing24?ccode=bs_war_vc_023:tii&cpn=WI\
ZZARD25&tii=1

-----

Don't buy it.

-----

I feel that Applecare is worth it. I have it for my iPhone 4. The only thing with SquareTrade is that you might be without a phone for a few days. With Applecare, you can bring it to the nearest Apple store and most of the time get a replacement on the spot.

-----

Last time I purchased AppleCare it was because Apple provided next day advance exchange of the phone at no charge, extended tech support, and a free battery replacement.

-----

But you will likely get a replacement on the spot at the Apple store even if you don't have AppleCare. That's my experience. And why I won't buy it.

-----

For people living overseas where there is no official apple store, how does apple care works. I am in Saudi Arabia, there is an apple representative who have earlier replaced super drive on my MBP as it was under warranty. Does any body have any experience or info re how Apple Care works in such situations or is it just USA thing

-----

As I explained in another thread, I live 100 miles away from the nearest Apples store.

And what about tech support after 90 days and battery after a year?

-----

The warranty on the iPhone 4 covers defects in materials and workmanship for 1 year. Applecare extends that to 2 years.

-----

And if you go to the Apple Store after one year they will likely still replace without a AppleCare warranty. It's worked for me several times already.

An Otterbox clip recall?

Let me say that my iPhone was damage because of a poor quality of the clip belt holster made by otterbox, it fell while crossing a street and a car run over it. Does somebody knows of a recall, I read in facebook that otterbox was changing the holster, they knew it didn't work properly. What can I do?

Apple iPhone otterboxApple iPhone otterbox

which iPhone did you have the problem with? The Otterbox Defender for the 3G/3GS had some known problems, for which I had heard there was a replacement being offered. However, the Defender for the iPhone4 is "bullet proof", in my opinion, and mine gets some fairly rough treatment.

-----

3GS

-----

Will they replaced the iPhone ?

-----

That would be a question to pose to Otterbox, but I would doubt it.

-----

I had the Otterbox on my iPhone 3GS for 3 days. Getting out of the car, the seatbelt caught the clip. The pivot pin broke and the phone fell to the ground. The phone was fine, but the belt holder was broken due to the pin. I thought this was not worth the money and promptly threw the broken belt clip in the garbage. I didn't even think there was a possible replacement for it. Bummer.

-----

, I have a Verizon iPhone,I tried the otterbox and did like it,but hated the big plastic belt clip.

-----

My iphone also fell into the street during the winter. I didn't know it was gone. I went back to where I had parked and there was my iphone in the middle of the street in the snow in the otterbox in perfect condition!! The window plastic was a little askew but I was able to get it back. I think the clip is a little bulky, but it works for me. so far.

iPhone 4, Sticking Home Button

I have a four month old iPhone4,and recently the home button seems to stick, not allowing me to exit out of pages, apps etc. Or even to turn on at times. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how did you get it sorted?

Apple iPhone 4Apple iPhone 4

-----

Go to Apple Store and they'll replace that. You're lucky it's still under warranty.

-----

Make an appointment at the Apple Store (have to go through apple.com) if there isn't one within driving distance can be mailed in. Since it is an iPhone 4 it is still under warranty (they haven't been out a year yet) and that is a warranty issue they will either fix the button or replace the phone so back up before you take it in.

-----

Happened to me. They replaced the iPhone4 at an Apple store.

-----

Thanks all for the advice. I will book an appointment and get it sorted. Cheers

IPad Insurance - whats the best?

Apple iPhone ipadApple iPhoneJust got my iPad 2. Is there a good insurance for drops, spills, lost, etc?

Any idea the cost?

-----

Square trade warranty for less than $100.

-----

While I don't have an iPad, I can vouch for square trade. They are excellent!!!

-----

Apple Care and Square Trade overlap in some areas, not in others. Apple Care doesn't cover drops and spills, but it does cover technical support issues. Square Trade covers drops and spills but not technical support. Neither covers loss or theft.

-----

I went with square trade. they have free buy back offer right now too, which isn't the greatest but at least its another option.

Complaints - repairs

Apple iPhone - Complaints - repairs

I have a complaints to share with fellow members - my iPhone was dropped by me n upon taking it to authorised service centre n calling on helpline - I was told that yr phone cannot be repaired by them as not under warranty. And I should get it repaired thru a third party. Apple does not have a repair policy. I was told that I could pay 10000/- n get refurbrished phone with a warranty of 90days.

Do u guys agree with this....After paying 31000/- n purchasing it thru airtel, one is now left in the open to fend for himself. Pl do respond.

iPhone Warranty
Apple iPhone Warranty
So: you did not read the warranty information before purchasing? That it was warranted for defects in materials and workmanship, but not for theft, loss, or breakage?

1. In the US there is at least one 3rd-party insurer that *does* cover breakage and water damage, although not theft or loss. Perhaps there is a company that does that where you are.

2. There are cases in the US where Apple has agreed to repair or replace because of breakage, for a price that is less than the new-product price, just as is the case there.

As for myself, I consider breakage to be my problem, not Apple's.

-----
Let me clarify things.

I presume you are in India.

You dropped your iPhone.

Yes. Most, if not all manufacturers void their products' warranties in cases as you mentioned (drop/break). Same with water damage. That's because it's not their fault.

That's why accessories for protection are everywhere.

Me.com not working on iPhone 4

Apple iPhone - Me.com not working on iPhone 4

We bought an iPhone 4 last night, brought it home and authorized it, sync'ed and everything looked fine. Email showed up and worked, calendars and contacts.

Seemed to work this am, as well.

Now, I don't see the email account even as an option. The calendar is selected but no events show. All the contacts show.

In the Settings, under the MobileMe account, I see the word 'Inactive'. Not a good sign. Selecting it shows none of the usual 'options'. Only the email name and the choice to Delete it.

I've tried deleting and then recreating. I'm getting the same results.

Frustrating.

Broken glass on 3Gs

Apple iPhone - Broken glass on 3Gs

Here's the post that none of us ever wants to make.
BUT, here we go.
The 3Gs was dropped and the screen is shattered. The phone still works. Yeah, I know, this question has been asked here a number of times, but until you actually NEED the information, you (*I*) don't pay particular attention to the answer.

So, who's had good luck with a repair facility?

While I'm tempted to do this myself, I'm going to defer to the people who do it everyday.

iPhone Warranty
How to use Apple iPhone Warranty
I took mine to apple store

Took them 10 min. I think $99

-----
I second that, Apple took care of me and it took them under 20 minutes to replace it.

-----
It was going to be $200 to fix mine at the Apple store, but there was a guy advertising on craigslist for $60. He drove to my place, fixed it in about 10 minutes, and did a great job. Apparently a lot of folks do it as a side business...

-----
Hmmm.
So any thoughts on the cost difference e.g. $99 vs. $200?

-----
I have no idea

The 3GS that I had glass replaces 4 $99 wasn't even in service

I upgraded 2 an ip4. And this was out of use 4 over 3 months?

-----
Mine wasn't under warranty so that may make a difference.

-----
I actually work at a repair company called myphonemd, We can be found on the web at www.myphonemd.net we repair pretty much any phone that we can get parts for, and use quality OEM parts and offer a year warranty on all of our repairs. Our turnaround time on phones such as the 3g and 3gs is 10 minutes with the price being either 79.99 for 3g and 89.99 for 3gs, and iphone 4 is 20 minutes and the cost is 169.99. The iphone 4's are a little harder to repair since you actually have to go into this phone from the back and remove all components to get to the display. The digitizer and LCD are fused together on this one so you cant change just one or the other.

-----
just got to remember, having a third party replace the glass will void the apple warranty - according to their license.

Warranty on 3G

Apple iPhone - Warranty on 3G

I have a new iphone4 and gave my 3G to my daughter. The 3G is just about 2 years old.

The 3G now only receives some of the texts sent to it. When I put the 3G sim card in another phone all the old texts suddenly arrive on the other phone so the sim appears fine.

The 3G appears to be defective to me. I shall do a full restore and also update to 4.2 (it's currently on 4.1).

But my question is if I still have issues is the phone still covered by Apple at all? It's out of contract (finished this summer). Is it worth seeing Apple for a fix or do I just use it as a chunky iPod touch?

iPhone Warranty
What Review Apple iPhone Warranty
unless you specifically purchased an additional warranty, your warranty has expired at least a year ago.

as far as not getting your text messages,it seems to be a common problem with the 3g. A quick google of the problem was pretty interesting. Several said the following worked

1. Press the home button (the big circle below the screen) and the sleep wake button (the button on top of the iPhone) simultaneously.

2. Hold both buttons simultaneously for a few seconds, Ignore the "Slide to power off" and keep holding

3. The iPhone should now shutdown automatically - (fade to black)

4. Turn the iPhone back on by hitting the sleep/wake button.

5. You should now see the Apple logo, your iPhone is restarting and thus booting up.

6. You have completed a hard reset successfully.

Warranty?

Apple iPhone - Warranty?

I just had my phone switched out at the apple store due to battery problems.

I was wondering about my warranty. Does it start over based on the issue of a new phone? Anyone know?

The warranty in the first phone ends Nov 30 and I want to purchase an additional year but don't know now if I have to do it right away.

iPhone Warranty
Blog catalog apple iphone warranty
I would call the Apple store, but logically it is 1 year from the date it was put in your hands by the store.

-----
You'd think so, but no. Unless they changed their policies in the last year.

-----
Yes, check with Apple.

In my experience though, I had a 3G that had a month left on warranty. I got a replacement and was told that the previous warranty didn't extend onto the new one nor do I get another year on the new one. I checked online the other day and the warranty has expired. I've only had the new 3G for about 2 months.

-----
If they switched out your phone they will extend the warranty to 90 days from that point or for the period of the original warranty whichever is later. However if you want to buy AppleCare to extend the warranty, I believe they count that from the day the phone was originally purchased.

-----
My 3GS was replaced last month due to Home Button problem.

Warranty still ends tomorrow though.

But at least I got a new one.

iPhone service

Apple iPhone Warranty - iPhone service

I have never been happy with my battery performance and got even more unhappy after I got my husband the same phone. We both use our phones about the same and mine was always running out and his was not

So I took it in, after making an appointment at the apple store. A nice young man took my phone and ran a diagnostic (so he said). He said the battery checked out fine and there was no water damage. He suggested it was a software issue. I complained a little more about it being troublesome from day one. He gave me a new phone.

I had my phone for 11 months. I didn't know how bad the battery was until I had hubbys phone to compare it to.

Anyway I am a happy customer. I did a restore and got everything back except my apps, which is fine with me. I am re-downloading only those apps I really use.

Apple gets an a for customer service.

iPhone Warranty
Blog for apple iphone warranty
I had the exact same problem for the past few weeks. The battery would drop fast even when it was just sitting and not being used. I did a restore and now it works perfect. Apple told you right. It is a software issue.

-----
For those that need more battery life - Brookstone makes a little battery pack that really extends operating time. Another thing to carry, another charger - but it is great for those situations when you have to have the phone work, and the battery is dead.

Sadly - it only works with the 3Gs, it doesn't work with my daughter's iPhone 4 at all.

-----
Mophie Juice Pack Air doubles battery life and provides a great case for protection and prevents antenna issue (actually increased my reception).

-----
what is a restore? Do you lose everything?

If it was a software issue I should not see it on my new phone correct? I had no issues with my phone except hubby and could set them side by side and do the exact same thing and his would only drop a little and mine would drop a lot.

I am confused by the restore comment.

-----
Restore is a function of iTunes. I did a backup of my iPhone and then clicked on restore. After the restoring the iPhone to new condition, iTunes asks if I would like to restore data from my last back up After that a sync will return everything back like it was. The main difference is that any glitch in the iOS has been removed. Some on the list will tell you to do a restore and then reinstall all the apps. This is a lot of work if restoring my data from the last backup will do.

I have had to do a restore as new several times. Once the GPS quit finding my location and a restore fixed it. I'm not sure I made that all clear.

-----
..correct, restore the phone then restore your backup. If you still have the problem, restore the phone again then set up as a new phone and this is where you will have to do the work of setting everything back up. Generally a Restore then restoring the backup will work, this is how I install each new beta, etc and rarely have an issue. Only once in the past 7 upgrades have I had to set up as completely new.

How old is this 3gs ?

Apple iPhone - How old is this 3gs ?

Is there a way to find out when a iPhone was purchased, how long it has been used by its serial number?

I just got this 3gs, the seller said it is 4-5 month old. But to me, it must be as least 16 month old !! I have iPod Touch, 2 year old, and it looks much better!

iPhone Warranty
LG Girls for Apple iPhone Warranty
In what way does it even matter how many months it took to reach its present state?

If my quick calculation is correct, it is a MAXIMUM of about 16 months old.

-----
You can tell when it was produced,

Serial no: abcde.....
the first 5 digits are important
ab = factory code
c = year (8)
de = week

Settings > General > About > Serial Number - the first two digits are the factory it was produced in (should be 86 for Foxconn), third digit is the year it was produced, (8 would be 2008, 9 is 2009, 0 is 2010, etc) and the 4th and 5th digit are the week of the year, ie 25 is the 25th week (these numbers are for iPhone 4)

-----
No matter what the serial number tells you, some people don't take care of their gear or toys. I hope you paid appropriately for the wear and tear.

-----
In iPhone the numbering is quite different. Can you tell something about that too?

I meant iPhone 4.

-----
To reiterate comment shown above, "These numbers are for iPhone 4".

For example, mine is 88022

-----
My serial is 7S040GGLA4S
Does it convey anything?

-----
It would seem to indicate manufacture in the 40th week of 2010 (early October). I don't know what factory "7S" would be.

-----
Decoding iPhone Serial Numbers that start with 7
http://www.hackint0sh.org/f127/21463.htm

"Produced in other areas, that the serial always starts wit a 7 and a letter.

So far, I stumbled over other threads, where people have serials, starting with a 5 or an 8 and have a digit as the second character.

So how can I describe an iPhone serial with its absolute basis attributes?

Is this correct?

1. - has 11 characters
2. - third character is either a 7 oder an 8
3. - fourth and fifth character are the production week
4. - following are characters uniqe per iPhone with no special meaning"

-----
Go to Apple's website. There is a page about repairs and services or something where you can check if your iPhone still has warranty and if so, when it expires. You just have to input the serial number.

The warranty expiration is the same date of purchase (or activation) last year...

If there's no more warranty, must be more than 12 months but not more than 16.

-----
I get on Apple.com, key in the serial number and find out the warranty actually already expired. So the phone must be over a year old and not 4-5 month old as the seller said !

Well, I know a nearby AT&T so I went there, gave them the number of the phone and they gave me the printout ...voila, iPhone 3gs, white, purchased on 6/18/2009

So the seller just ..forget this is 2010, no longer 2009 ..honest mistake :)) and it runs on 4.1 so "nobody can unlock it!" (My intention is to give the iPhone to a relative who lives in a country without AT&T service !)

All my life I have this weakness: to trust people too easily! I don;t know how to react when people look straight at me in the eyes and ..lie! I guess I belong to the older generation :))

-----
So it turned out to be 4-5 months AND A YEAR old... Tsk tsk...

If they try to make you buy a new phone - don't! There are places in most major cities that will do an absolutely beautiful job of replacing the broken glass.

Usually $70 to $80 - 15 minutes while you wait. Been there - I got a clumsy daughter.

-----
My husband did the same thing. He dropped it and the glass shattered. I have Applecare on it and it is also covered under a Personal Articles policy with State Farm. The genius bar told me that it is not covered for accidental breakage under Applecare and to turn it in on the Personal Articles policy.

They charge 99.00 to replace the glass. I just got a check from State Farm for 107.00 (they even included the tax) and am going to go have it replaced at the Apple store. Long story short, make sure your Iphones are covered under some kind of insurance policy other than Applecare. You won't be sorry!

Oily on the bottom

Apple iPhone - oily on the bottom

I fell in love with the iPhone from the moment I saw the first ad. Although there have been minor issues, my iPhone has been my lifeline. I'm a professional petsitter and it has made running my business so much easier.

Today I sat my iPhone on a shelf of my computer desk while I took care of some things. When I finished and picked it back up, I noticed it felt oily on the bottom. Further investigation found a bottle of incense solvent (a oil used to cut fragrance oils) had been left on the next shelf up and had developed a leak...right onto the phone below. I've had it laying so it could drain, but the screen is now very difficult to read. I don't know how, if at all, this will affect the iPhone other than making it hard to see what's on the screen. I synced right away to make sure everything is backed up off it just in case. It doesn't seem to be draining any more, but I'm afraid it's totally ruined. You can see air bubbles under the glass. I'm so not happy with myself.

iPhone Warranty
oily apple iphone oily
This will be likely impossible to clear up because it is an oil substance. It's doubtful that Apple will replace it.

Your best bet is to buy a new iPhone.

-----
The visibility is getting worse. I can't afford to buy a new phone right now. I'm thinking I'll go back to my old iPhone until I can afford to get a new one. Luckily I still have every cell phone I've ever owned. Someday I will mount them in a shadow box.

I just put the SIM card back in the old one, right?

-----
It's my understanding you can exchange a "bad" iPhone for a "good" iPhone of the same version for just $100.00. My son exchanged an iPhone 4 with broken glass for just $100.00 at the local Apple store.

-----
They are going a few "extra miles" on iPhone 4 breaks than they have in the past, at least that I have read and seen - a LOT of people have posted here and other places that they walked in with broken glass (front or back) and it was either repaired or replaced at no charge or for $100, typically it is $199 for the front and on iPhone 4, I think the official price for the back was $99 (front contains touch interface and glass).

-----
It's not a 'bad' iPhone. Oil was spilled on it. My fault. The iPhone that got 'oiled' was the upgrade I got last year. The iPhone I'm going back to temporarily is an original iPhone. The SIM is from it originally.

----
I know the oil is your fault, that's my point. Since it's not under warranty that's why the $100.00 exchange "fee". Call your local Apple store. My son broke his glass so his was his fault too but he was able to exchange it For the fee.

-----
I would take it into an Apple store and tell them what happened and ask them if they can help you. Honesty with them is the best way to approach them in this case.

If you have a iPhone 4, you have a micro SIM card, the original had a regular SIM card. You will need to get a new SIM card to fit the old phone, if Apple is not feeling generous.

-----
Last time I used AT&T, SIM cards were physically interchangeable, that is the entire point of them. How will it not fit?

-----
The iPhone 4 uses a microSIM. The older ones used miniSIM.

-----
I did not know that, I thought they were always that size.

-----
I assume you've checked to see if it's covered by your house contents insurance?

BTW what's a "shadow box"?

USB/Charging Cord problems

USB/Charging Cord problems

Shortly after I bought my iPhone 3GS in July 2009, I had to get a new phone due to battery issues. I **think** I kept my original cords, but I'm not 100% sure.

Regardless, since that time my USB/Charger Cord has had some twisting issues. At both ends, it's like a kinked vacuum power cord - the outer rubber material has slowly twisted and torn. About two months ago, it had gone down almost two inches on the phone jack end, and an inch or so on the USB end.

I've used electrical tape to cover it, but that doesn't seem to be the best option. I now have to set the plugged in phone down at a certain angle in order to charge. If I am holding it up (while lying in bed), I lose the charge signal, or it goes in-and-out.

Has anyone else had this trouble with their charger cords? I could go buy a new one, but just didn't want to spend the money if I didn't have to... but maybe others have had this happen.

iPhone Battery
Wallpaper tight pants race girl cameltoe apple iphone
Not with my iWhatever sync/charge cords. I'm still using the same cord that came with my iPod Classic about three years ago. I use it for the Classic, I've used it for the iPhone and I now use it for the iTouch.

Note, however, that it generally just sits on my desk, plugged into the back of my computer and never under any stress that would fray the joins.

-----
The power Cord doesn't have strain relief at the ends as it should. I have had 4 or 5 of these break over the years.

I just take it to the Apple Store and they give me a free exchange for a new one! I recommend you do the same.

-----
Cool... except that the Apple store is a 90-minute drive away. I'll wait until my next trip to Indy.

-----
Think of it as an excuse to go ogle the new toys & try them out.
:-)

-----
Seriously? Free exchange? Wish I had known this about a month ago. Gee I even threw away the old one or else I would take it even now.

-----
Yes free exchange. But you have to ask for it.

-----
I had to replace my charging cord after about a year of use. Mine twisted (involuntarily) as well. I think because I used to pack up my cord every day to take with me, plug it in at work, cart it home, use it in my car etc. Now I have a device in every location so I don't move my cords from place to place any longer and hope that it lasts longer.

Now I am an iPod user, I have the old "classic 160G" iPod and I have noticed that the charging cord for that device is made of a much thicker material and I've never had to replace it. I think the combination of never moving it and its thicker width has contributed to its longevity.

-----
You simply go up to one of the Apple store reps and show him/her your power cord and explain that you had not mishandle it. Then ask for a replacement. They will do it usually with little to no trouble. It does not require Apple Care.

Sometimes they may record your SN of your iPhone or product it came with to handle it as a warranty replacement. Other times they just hand me a new cord and no questions asked.

-----
You can also go to support.apple.com and enter your serial number and they will send you a new one in the mail and you have to put your broken one in the included returned packaging within (I think) 14 days or they charge you for a second power cable if you don't return the broken one.

-----
Yep, I was visiting our NEW Apple store today in my city and asked the sales rep about the cord problem and he said yes, they would replace it. Nice to know.

-----
I just tried this but they were going to charge me $41.41. I guess I will wait til I'm near an apple store to exchange.

-----
The new cords (the ones without the lock) are so brittle. They crack in a few months use. I have 3 cracked cables, all exactly on the same places - right next to the connectors. My oldest cable which was for my first iPod is still okay albeit yellowish dirty. The design of the new cords and probably the materials used are just not as good as the previous ones.

-----
Yes that has been my problem as well. They are brittle. And there should be a strain relief at the connectors to ensure they don't break.

-----
I tried going to the Apple support page that it's suggested, but I couldn't figure out the details of it all. Sometimes it's nice to just be able to pick up the phone and call... even if you have to sit through the robot voice and push buttons to get where you need to go.

I guess I'll just wait until I make a road trip to Indy.

Go to:

https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do

Enter your Serial # (Setting > General > About > Serial #) & select country (United States) and click Continue

It will check to make sure product is under warranty, then click "Request Service", log in with your Apple / iTunes ID, click I Have read/agree to terms of service and click Continue It will tell you to reset the phone if certain problems, click Continue here then on the Troubleshoot & Identify Page - select Replace Part or Accessory, iPhone System-Wide Issue, Cable, Dock Connector, then write "frayed" or whatever in the box, and click Continue - and then I agree to the terms and continue again, cable will arrive in 3-5 days.

Troubleshoot and Identify the Issue

-----
I went through all the steps (THANK YOU, BILL), but it's asking for $19.00 to cover the part.

Maybe I'm out of warranty??

-----
That is what I mentioned, they put a $19 hold on your card - if you do NOT return the broken one with the included return packaging, you will be charged the $19, if you do return it within the time period (14 days I think), the hold drops off. As long as you are under warranty (1 year unless you purchased AppleCare).

-----
Ok. That explains why they were requesting $41.

iPhone 4 Paperweight?

Apple iPhone - iPhone 4 Paperweight?

Has anyone else experienced their device just going dark and dead for no apparent reason, and I mean permanently? The iPhone 4 I just bought last month was fine last night and now it's just dark like the battery is dead today but it doesn't come back up , not when I plug it in, or when I try to reboot with the home and start button .

There is a double case on it and I don't know of any bumps or spills on the device. There was a droppage that happened yesterday but iPhone worked fine afterwards.

What do you list experts think?

Press Top right (simultaneously) and hold both the power button on top-left of unit, and the home button on bottom of face of unit. Keep holding for 5-10 seconds until you see the white apple logo appear. Then release both buttons.

-----
I guess leave it on charge for a while and see if something happens.

-----
She said she has it in a double case, could the connections in the case have come partially loose and the charging circuit be disconnected? Either reset the connections or take it out of the case before charging.

-----
I humbly thank everyone for their replies..
The home button and the top right button held down for 10 long seconds restored the iPhone4 to full functionality. I don't know how or why it turned off like that, but around here we have a saying; If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Broke front glass on iPhone 4

Apple iPhone - Broke front glass on iPhone 4

Now what do I do?

Is there a repair kit?

iPhone Warranty
is there any Warranty for front glass apple iphone 4
There are a few choices.
There are some independent repair shops that can/will replace your glass. For around $70.00 to $80.00

From what I've heard Apple will exchange your broken iPhone for a unbroken iPhone for around $100.00 at most Apple stores. My son was able to exchange his at the Apple store in Sacramento, Ca.

Apple will repair your iPhone, for the same $100.00.

Live with it.

And - after the repair or replacement - seriously consider insurance.

Some *house* contents insurance policies cover phones, ipods, etc., when away from home. Ours even covers our bicycles. I don't think this cost any extra

-----
I can attest to the quality of work done by these independent shops. Beautiful job - good as new. I'll never be a slave to Apple again.

If you're stateside, try: http://www.brokemyiphone.com/ They repair iphones.

I wouldn't try the repair myself. However, you may be able to find a youtube video & a kit on ebay.
