Catalog apps iPhone 4

Apple iPhone - catalog apps on iPhone 4

Please advise if there is an app to catalog my apps on my iPhone 4.

iPhone Apps
Apple iPhone Apps
What do you mean by catalog? List or group by like items?

Try iTunes if you want to list them. OR iTunes if you want to group them by like items. When you open iTunes > Apps you have a choice of showing them by Apps, grouped by iDevice capabilites or by Genres in Grid view. In list view you can probably sort them by various things.

Why does every one want an App to do the basics that are already available in a bare bones system?

-----
Something I often wonder myself. ;)

-----
It would be nice to be able to get a list of the apps that you have *installed* on the phone (or other device) -- not just the check mark list on the sync-page but a list you can copy off & peruse easily.

-----
I made a spreadsheet in Excel and keep the list of apps I have, date purchased, and cost. I am amazed at how much I have spent!!! :)

-----
On my Mac, I use App Store Expense Monitor

-----
Not much help to me as I use Windows.

But I do have a question about it -- does it also have a way to keep track of what is *on* any iDevice? not just what you've *got*?

I'm not in the mood to type up a catch-up spreadsheet -- got way too many apps for that project.

-----
Nope.

-----
There is a way to make a list of the apps you install, sorted by the day if you wish.

-----
You can also sort by genre or alphabetically and copy to your notes or send in email to yourself that you can reference on your iphone or ipad.

-----
is there a way to do the same as you explained in your blog but for iTunes for Windows?

-----
On a Mac we can save a print file as a pdf file.

If you can do this on a PC, then you can select the app list and send it to your printer and select Custom option to get all the columns in your view list and save as a pdf file or print it.

I know you can selecting a group of SONGS in iTunes on PC (select first song, then holding down shift key select the last song in group) and then perform a right click on this selection to copy the info for the SONGS, but I don't think this will work for APPS, but you could try that as well.

-----
You're using a Mac.

"Services" does not appear to be in any of the menus in the Windows version.

-----
Not sure what to offer as a suggestion for PC users. If you can take a partial screen print of the open window then you can have the list in png or jpg format to refer to when needed.

Another way might be to select the list of apps and then select 'Print' and select 'Custom' (this print view will give the columns dates and view options you have selected). On a Mac we can view a preview of this list, before printing and select save as pdf rather than printing.

-----
Thanks. Based on your suggestion, here's what I did --

in Apps window, have apps listed in the order I want (so far I've done by date-mod sort), being sure the columns are wide enough (otherwise the dates got chopped). Select File/Print/song-listing/theme-custom. There's no print-preview but since I have Acrobat, I can print-to-PDF.

I also did a send-to-OneNote & it puts a "printout" in a Notebook -- I haven't done much with OneNote so don't know what I can do with it there. Something to try, I guess, if I'm in the mood for it. I'm sure OneNote would be a big help in getting myself organized if I could just get organized enough to do it. :-)

There are probably other ways to "print" a list without using paper -- various free-to-pdf programs & so on.

I wonder if a pdf-to-excel program would do something here....

Anyway, this is a start.
But it really would be nice if there were a way to list the apps actually installed on a device, maybe as an option during a sync or something.

-----
How do you get the date modified, I am getting names, seller name genres, size that is it

-----
In iTunes go to View Options under View Menu and check 'Date Added', 'Date Modified', etc. that you might wish to see in the list.

-----
Thanks I got impatient, found it all. Thanks

-----
The song-listing/theme-custom will print what's in the *current view*. Be sure you have the columns the way you want before you "print". Right-click on the column-head bar, check the columns you want, drag them around to get them in the layout you want.

-----
Here is another option to try on PC, it worked on my Mac and there should be some way to do same on a PC.

Click on the first app in your list in iTunes. Use right click (PC) or control click (Mac) and select 'Show in Finder' (Mac) or 'Show in Windows' (PC)

On a Mac the finder window opens with the list of apps and I assume that a similar list in a directory would appear on the PC.

Select the group of app names in that finder window (Mac) or directory window (PC).

Using the cmd C (Mac) and the equivalent on a PC cntrl C. to copy this list to your clipboard.

I then pasted this in to Text Edit on Mac (using the plain text option) and would think that the PC would have an editor that would also work for pasting in the list of apps.

-----
the list of 'Apps' viewed, printed or saved via 'Services' does give all the apps that you have downloaded into iTunes. It doesn't specifically give the ones that you have installed on your device. In fact, you might have some apps on an iPad and some on an iPhone, but not both or not installed on either.

It would be nice to have this as a feature of iTunes or as an app that would send a list of current apps installed on our devices.

I was offering some possible solutions that might help people see what they had added to their iTunes Apps, some are not aware this view of all apps sorted by date added, etc is there.

-----
Perhaps folders would help you - if you have two similar apps, push and hold until they start getting - well - quivering or something. Then drag one app on top of the other, and it will make a folder. You can pick a name. I have hundreds of apps - but all fit on two pages. I used to think there was a nine app limit on folders, but I've dragged as many as 11 there and they all show up when I tap the folder. NICE way to organize them all, but if you upgrade your phone, be prepared for hassles with backing up and restoring. ALL my apps are free, it still acted like I had to pay for them all again, and lost ALL of my folder organization (UGH!) It took a couple of hours to make my new phone like the old one was.

-----
It's 12 per folder.

Lost App Store

Apple iPhone - Lost App Store App

Help after my granddaughter was playing with my phone the app store icon was missing and it wasn't restored with syncing. How can I get my app back?

iPhone Apps

It has to be on your phone somewhere, you can't remove the App Store it is part of the OS. Have you checked every page, every folder, etc?

-----
Use Spotlight.
Search for "App Store".

-----
Check your restrictions. If you have restrictions enabled and don't allow apps to be installed then the app store icon will disappear.

Banking App

Apple iPhone - Banking App

I'm wondering if there is an app out there that will sync with Quicken (not Quickbooks)?

iPhone Apps
Apple iPhone Apps
No app that syncs with the desktop version (that i am aware of) - there is an App for Quicken Online (hosted / SaaS version).

-----
For Windows or Mac?

I use MoneyDance finance app. Its better than Quicken. Its for both Windows and Mac. It also has an iPhone app that syncs to the desktop.

The good thing is that it will easily import all of your data from Quicken in a snap. Its also cheap!

Highly recommended.

-----
PocketMoney will sync with Quicken. The main drawback is that it must be done manually. That is you have to export what you want to transfer and import it into the other app.

-----
Are you actually doing this on a regular basis and finding that it works well? I'm Googling and finding nothing but complaints. How do you get the .QIF files back to Quicken, and are you able to keep your categories etc for budgeting?

-----
My spouse is absolutely loves using Quicken. The second he uses a card, or writes a check, out comes the iPhone.

He's found a work-around for the lack of an iPhone "true" Quicken app. He uses SplashTop Remote to log into his desktop computer, launches Quicken, and just updates that way.

-----
I don't know about splashtop but I use a free remote access app called teamviewer. It works great & is free for private use. It is also very secure!

-----
It is awkward and does not always work correctly. I mostly use it to move stuff to the iPhone so that I can reference it when out and about.

-----
Does MoneyDance work with downloading files from Banks and Investment Companies like Quicken does? That's my main hesitation in switching from Quicken.

-----
Yes it does. Though I have never used it this way.

-----
I wish there was, I would buy it in an instant if it was not too expensive.

-----
Try PocketMoney, works for me from the old Palm days!

Apple iPhone - Font Size for Messages (IMs)

Can someone point me to the spot to change the font size for "Messages." When clicking the message to read it (after clicking on the green conversation bubble and then the sending person's name or phone number), the message is really large.

I looked in the "Settings" and didn't find anything that affected the Message font size. Any help would be appreciated!

Record tv programs to my computer and sync to my iPhone 3G

Apple iPhone - Record tv programs to my computer and sync to my iPhone 3G

I just want to record tv programs to my computer and sync to my iPhone 3G but can't seem to find any good info on how to do it. Could I use a Hauppauge product or similar product? It needs to have an IR Blaster to change the channel on the cable box (I am on Verizon Fios, but will use a starndard non-dvr box in my guest room for this project). I prefer an external device since I have an extra laptop I can dedicate to this purpose. However, I am not against doing this on my desktop PC since I don't use my PC that much other than for a file server in my house.

BTW, I have the QIP-6416-2 Motorola DVR on my main TV. Several years ago I was able to pull DVRs off the box using the firewire and some software, but this proved to be very difficult and unreliable. Therefore, I'll be OK with recording it off an analog box to a PC, then syncing it to my iPhone.

iPhone Sync
Apple iPhone Sync
Once you have it captured on a computer, PC or Mac, you have to change the format and size to one usable on the iPhone.

On the Mac side you can use Handbrake to do the conversion. You will have to find appropriate software for the PC side. Then you can sync it to the iPhone with iTunes or other software.

The conversion take almost real time, so it will be slow. It is easier to try and find it already converted when possible, at say Netflix for older shows or say Hulu for current ones. Those will probably be in streaming form, rather than download form.

-----
On the Windows side, you can also use HandBrake. Remember that you need to also load VLC to get the necessary DVD decryption codecs.

Never reply to these spam messages. They do not know if it is a cell phone number or not. Replying just confirms that it is.

I read an article where these spammers are sending out 85 of these messages per minute. AT&T had filed suit against them. I will try and find the article.

Sync problems

Apple iPhone - Sync problems

I am trying to sync my wife's 3G iPhone on our Mac. A message pops up after the 3rd step , stating "unable to sync iPhone, file missing". No idea or information about what file? I have restored the iPhone with no issues and when I went to sync again the message appeared again. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

I had that same message with my wife's iPhone4 yesterday on my PC. I tried a number of times and got the message. I then re-booted the PC and it then completely synced. Don't know why that happened, but it has happened to my phone as well a few times over the past several months.

I know this doesn't help your situation, but I thought I should let you know that others are having similar problems.

-----
I don't have a mac but something similar happened on my PC. When I deleted the old backup and made a fresh new backup the error disappeared. Not sure if it will work for you.

Facebook alert tone?

Apple iPhone - Distinct Facebook alert tone?

So far, so good with my new Verizon iPhone 4. One thing I miss from my Blackberry is a way to distinguish incoming email alerts from incoming Facebook messages or comments. On the Blackberry the audible tones were different, but on the IPhone it seems that the text message alert is the same for text messages and Facebook alerts. Anyone able to get three separate alerts, one for email, one for SMS, and one for Facebook?

Phone Shutoff

Apple iPhone - Sudden Phone Shutoff

I have an original 3GS that has worked pretty much flawlessly since June of 2009. Suddenly this week it has decided to start dropping calls anywhere from, say, 2-3 to 15-20 seconds after the call is answered. First I thought it might be a proximity sensor error, dropping the call when I put the phone to my ear, but today it does the same thing in Speaker mode, about 10-15 sec after the timer starts. A Restart did not fix it, but after a full ("Hard") Reset it seems to be working so far.

I use this 3GS as my primary (and thus almost only) phone, using my home landline very infrequently, mostly for faxing. Thus I need to have it essentially "almost guaranteed" functional. Assuming it keeps working well today, is there any reason to take it to AT&T (local and easy), or the Apple Store (95 miles, not easy)?

Randomly Dying 3GS Battery

Apple iPhone - Continuing Saga of the Randomly Dying 3GS Battery

I'm having with my 3GS. Back a few months ago, the phone would abruptly shut down - at anywhere from 35% to 80%. I tried running it down to recalibrate (but if it shuts down at 47%, is it really "run down"), letting it sit idle for a day (I got the shakes - it felt bad), and other tricks I read online.

I went to the Apple store two Saturdays ago, and I was told it was probably a software problem - and I should do a system restore.

Yesterday I did that - Got all my apps, music, contacts, photos synched and backed up, and did the restore. Felt good... got the looks of the apps and folders adjusted, and things seemed ok.

... Until the thing died at 68%.

I'm trying it again today - no charging while at work. So far I'm down to 84%, and would really like to see the thing go down to 20% or so.

Then I'll try actually using it to get the charge down (rather than letting it sit idle) and see what happens from there.

I read on a few boards that this is not an uncommon problem. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm all ears.

iPhone Battery
Apple iPhone Battery
It is not all that common on the 3 lists that I am on.

How old is your 3GS? They were released in June 2009. Since your 3GS could be getting near the end of the warranty and the Apple Care, I would do something about it now. If it is outside of warranty, they you will have to replace the battery.

I don't think that they recommend recalibration of the iPhone battery.

If you are having a problem after a reset, then it might be a hardware issue, or age. They do happen. But try the recalibration first. Or take it back in to the Apple Store, just back everything up before you go.

This is the procedure to recalibrate a Mac laptop battery. If you don't mind using some of your cellular data usage, then turn off WiFi and watch a NetFlix streaming movie, or listen to Pandora, until the iPhone shuts down. If you don't want to use your data usage, then do the same using WiFi. I believe the instructions say to leave the device for several hours, like 5 or more, in this state. Then charge the device fully. Disconnect and use the device. Watch when it shuts off again. If it does not give you better performance at this point, then I would take it into the Apple Store and tell them all that you have done, and if you can reference back to the earlier visit, do that.

Again, I don't think that they recommend recalibration for the iPhone battery, so I take no responsibility if you do.

Yeah - the books come from Amazon - they might show up under "Archived" but they will be there.

-----
I've no idea what happened but you can re-download the app.

-----
You can reload the Kindle app and open it. In the Kindle app look for an "Archives" button. Click on that button and every book you ever bought should be there for free download. It's a little cumbersome but you should not lose any books.

Printer?

Apple iPhone - Printer?

An app on my 3Gs with iOS 4.2 running has an option to print pages. When I hit print it goes to searching for printers and returns nothing, even with a wireless printer that is also hard wired into the network. The app is Universalis.

iPhone printer
Apple iPhone Printer
Same thing for me.

-----
I think you have to turn on "Printer Sharing" on your Mac.

-----
Does anyone know if there is an app for printer with a personal computer and HP? My iPhone is synced with my Dell.

-----
if you have a newer hp eprinter it can work. If you have a wired printer you can use air print (there were directions given in this forum for creating a command to use on a PC.) I am away from my computer. When I get on it I think I have the instructions which I can post. The printer must be connected to the computer with air print active for this to work. when set up properly one can print from the phone. Hp also has an app in the app store but this works with e print newer printers.

-----
If you're using an HP printer try HP iPrint from the app store. It works with my HP printer.

-----
If your printer is hooked up to a Mac (USB, Ethernet, WiFi, etc) take a look at Printopia:

http://www.ecamm.com/mac/printopia/index.html

-----
This link should help you set up airprint. I made a shortcut on my desktop to the .exe file after installation so that air print doesn't have to run in the background. It worked great for me until I got a new eprinter so I don't use it much now.

Apps not fetched, X on icon?

Apple iPhone - Apps sometimes not fetched, X on each icon ?

Anyone know what the X on each app icon is supposed to indicate?

Occasionally a specific app does not launch after I touch it, but others do. Currently the Weather Channel app will not launch. If I press the icon a little longer the icons wobble and a X appears on each.

iPhone Apps
Apple iPhone Apps
Don't touch the x unless you want to delete that app. The jiggling icons allow you to move the icons around.

-----
Touching an icon for a few seconds will allow you to edit the home screen arrangement. You'll know you're in this mode when the icons "wobble" and x marks on each icon (except default apps) appear.

Touching the "x" on an icon deletes the app from your iPhone. You can also drag the icons around to rearrange them. Also, dragging an icon on top of another lets you create a folder.

Pressing the home button exits this mode.

-----
...and moving an icon from one page to another (drag it 'past' the right or left edge) rearranges them across pages. Much easier to do this last action from iTunes however.

-----
I understand the moving icons and delete icon now. Any idea why some icons do not launch the app and a few minutes later, they do?

-----
When searching a list of apps in the App store, some apps have a small icon of a white plus sign in the upper left hand side next to the price. Does anyone knows what that means?

-----
I believe that means the program will work on the ipad as well. It will have the full ipad functionality.

iTunes/iPhone compatibility in MS

Apple iPhone - Problems with iTunes/iPhone compatibility in MS

Although a different problem than noted in the forum, I too have been experiencing problems with MS compatibility. In my case, iTunes shuts down when I link my iPhone into the computer. It just STOPS WORKING! All is fine again when I disconnect the phone and iTunes works like a charm. Each works like it should as long as they are not linked. Any ideas? I've posted this a few times before and got no response.

iPhone iTunes
Apple iPhone iTunes
I haven't had any problem with iTunes + using several different iDevices -- older iPods, two different gen iTouches, an iPad & an iPhone4. iTunes is slow & has its eccentricities but works just fine for me & keeps all the devices straight when I sync them.

What opsys are you using?
Have you tried un/re-installing iTunes?
What else are you running at the same time?
Maybe it's not MS per se but something *else* in your particular setup.

-----
On the Mac-side for example. I can not use both PhoneView by ecamm and iTunes and connect my iPhone. Both Apps want to connect to the phone and only one can at a time. IIRC, i get a polite message to that effect. Sounds like you are not getting a message just an App quitting.

Have you tried more than one Sync cable? there could be a problem with your cable.

Incompatibility MS software

Apple iPhone - Obvious incompatibility with MS software

Despite the determined declarations that iTunes and the iPhone are compatible with MS software, I know that I am far from alone in experiencing problems, and I have today hit on a prime example. I have realized before that Outlook's < Recurrent Appointment > setup in MS Office did not work properly in iTunes and iPhone.

Scanning my next couple of weeks today in the iPhone Calendar, I noticed that a regular meeting (a committee that occurs on the first Friday quarterly) was marked as on Sunday afternoon, not Friday. Editing this in the iPhone, it showed that the recurrence was and on the first Friday of March annually - yet nothing I did could persuade the iPhone to modify this to Friday March 4th, not Sunday March 6th. Deleting everything, and modifying MS Outlook on the PC, I resynchronized - same dates, and I see that the iPhone does not itself have a setting for "same weekday" in a < Custom > item - it plainly copies from the PC a setting it cannot replicate. This is not opinion, it is fact - it happens.

This is entirely consistent with previous experience I have had since using an iPhone. It makes an awful mess of recurrent appointments transferred from MS Outlook - some of them have been mangled in the past, as has this one. It is not good enough for Apple to be complacent about this - either sort it, or warn users what it can and cannot do

Any comments? How do I present this obvious bug so that Apple will listen?

iPhone Calendar
Apple iPhone Calendar
If I read you correctly the iPhone calendar does not have the proper option to match the settings in Outlook. So the incompatibility is due to the lack of functionality in the iPhone app. I also found this to be true. The solution is to go to an app that is compatible with Outlook. I have been using Pocket Informant. It is now capable of syncing with Outlook.

-----
I may be doing something different. I use the exchange server setting through work and have never had problems through miconnect with repeating appointments set on my phone or on my work calendar. Of course, I no longer sync with my home outlook program. I rarely use my home outlook now although I may set it up with Google eventually.

After having multiple, multiple problems with BlackBerry and Outlook even using Pocket Informant, I am thrilled not to find disappearing contacts or appointments. I am still having to rebuild part of my data base and I gave up the Bold at the beginning of December. The Bold 9000 had a huge memory leak and did a lot of damage to my things, but to BlackBerry's reputation period.

iPhone Note app

Apple iPhone - iPhone Note app

I know that there has been a recent thread on favorite apps so I wanted to ask for the opinion on a more specific app need.

Dos anyone know of an iPhone app for Notes that will sync with a desktop version. My needs are better suited by using a desktop note program that will sync to iPhone as most entries will be made from a desktop. I have looked at Toodledo but it just does not float my boat, the whole desktop interface is just kind of blah.

I did look at the Awesome Note iPhone app and can say that it is what I am looking for on the iPhone side, in fact it would be perfect if only it had a desktop sync. I love the To Do function on the Awesome Note app but again, no desktop sync. For Tasks I currently use Google Calendar/Tasks and a limited Task iPhone app that I cannot even remember what the name is.

iPhone Apps
Apple iPhone Apps
I use NoteMaster.

Am not a big note person, but do like to get my grocery, town lists on the iPhone after typing using the computer (PC). NoteMaster syncs with Google Docs and since you use some Google items, might work for you. Like that I can use any computer to update the Google Docs items and then sync.

-----

Awesome notes syncs with google docs so it does have a desktop sync per say. If you would be interested I wouldn't mind walking you through it :)

-----
I recommend Notebooks app.

-----
I use notespark...its via the net...and synchcs both ways...I like it. I know that some folks like evernote.

-----
OneNote looks promising but still buggy.

-----
Evernote, hands down! App, mac desktop, or web.

-----
I use office 2003 outlook, besides the notes it does take care of your contacts too

-----
So far, the Notes app that comes preloaded on the iPhone4 has served my needs quite well and is easy peasy to synch w/ Outlook. The only thing I'm running into now is how to alphabetize/organize the notes.....it looks like they only list by creation date.

-----
If you are using a Mac, MobileMe is the obvious choice. Or if you do not want to look for a cheap subscription on line, then you can use PhoneView by ecamm.com to sync or copy from iPhone to Mac and back. It will move all kinds of things from the iPhone.

On my iPhone 4 I have Vibrate turned on. When I turn my volume all the way down I can still hear a very small amount of my ringtones and text message tones. How do I get complete silence with just vibrate without having to change my settings every time?

There is a small switch above the volume buttons. This puts it in silent mode while keeping vibrate on.

-----
Duh!!! Sorry. I feel stupid. I totally forgot about that switch.

-----
Flip the switch on the top left edge down.

Downloading to the iPhone over Wifi does not use your cellular data allowance.

Do you not have Wifi at home?

-----
If you use wifi to download to the phones the data is free.

AT&T 3G Microcell

Apple iPhone - AT&T 3G Microcell

I just got one of these for free but after countless hours on the help line, we were unable to get a solid 3G signal. Either it is defective or the Netgear router isn't compatible or something else is wrong. They are sending me a new one. Does anyone have experience with this?

iPhone
Apple iPhone
Sorry I can't help but how did you get one for free?

-----
I used the AT & T app to let them know every time a call was dropped or the phone was searching for a connection at my home. I did that hundreds of times.

-----
See... there's an App for that.

And you used it wisely.

-----
Their customer service has been really spotty for this. Several csr's had no training at all. Two seemed to really know what was going on.

There are pretty many cords to AT & T ach so how they are AT & T ached and defective cords can be a problem.

I had to increase my internet speed.

My address was not on their database so it took over a week to get that updated.

You may have to restart router, microcell , and modem.

You may have to reboot your phone.

You may have to reset the microcell using a paper clip.

If you have 2g phones on your list of numbers it may not work even if the phone is not around (this was the most recent change).

And sometimes it may just not work.

It is nice to have good cell service when it does work.

-----
I have this box. Got it last year. My house is a horrible dead zone so I didn't notice an improvement until I put it before my router, giving it the priority, and then the phone service improved-some. It helps, but it's not perfect. I've heard that it would slow up the internet speak, but I have the Cox cable internet service and I didn't really notice a difference.

Another thing to watch for: I pay the $20 monthly to have all calls through this box free. I registered 3 phones to it and the people at the AT & T &T end did not know what they were doing and only set up the box for a single use. Mine was the only one registered on their end, and my other two phones were continuing to rack up charges. This went on for about 4 or 5 months and repeated calls. I finally got someone who did know about the box and they changed the code in their system and I'm good to go now. If anyone else has this problem, make the suggestion to AT & T &T so they know what to do.

-----
You can manage your phone numbers on line. You can add up to ten numbers. Just don't try to add one that is not 3g or you will be sorry.

-----
My home reception was fair (but not great), so I had not complained after having AT & T service for 4 months. Nonetheless, AT & T emailed me 2 weeks ago to offer me a free micro-cell.

I must be lucky, because installation was a breeze.

The 3G must be switched on in the iPhone's settings. (I had usually left my phone set on EDGE to ensure stronger home reception.)

Now the micro-cell sits right next to my Wi-Fi router and on the shelf above my cable modem. And since setting it up and letting its GPS orient itself, the micro-cell has consistently given me 4-5 bars, even ouutside in the yard. I couldn't be more pleased.

One surprise bonus was improved bAT & T ery life on the phone. Apparently weak signals make the phone work harder to maintain a cullular connection. Since installing the micro-cell, the bAT & T ery appears to last longer, even though I now leave 3G enabled.

-----
I just went into the AT & T store to buy one and he said that I was eligible for a free one. They must have a list of neighborhoods with poor reception. After hours on the phone I got a new one the next day. It has exactly the same problem, a flickering Ethernet signal and no solid 3G light. I have changed settings on my router to ones specified, turned it off and on in every order, and now I have to call the help line for a few more hours...

-----
Do you have AT & T as your land line provider and using a wifi box also supplied by them? Sorry you are having such a bad time getting it to work. Mine went easy. So all you others may have either experience.

-----
I have been following this thread. I, too, have a letter from AT & T offering a free microcell . I have only EDGE at home for voice. Not great, but OK. Rarely does a call drop. But I have my WIFI for data. Why would I need a microcell ?

-----
A microcell changed 1-2bars at home to always 5 bars. It just works better and it's 3G.

-----
Wow, they have sure changed at AT & T . I had to buy mine, of course this was about 10 months ago when the micro cell was new.I live in a weak area south of Tucson. Moved here about a year ago. Super weak signal, had to go outside & stand in a certain place to make a call. The micro cell works fine now. When I started I had two major problems, first my address is not in the USPO database & they have to have you on GPS for 911 calls. I am required to have a POB where I live so that was a problem. (no physical address according to USPO) I then spent many hours on the phone with tech support trying to get it operable, only to find that my speed was too slow. I had 1.5 which it says will work but it dosen't. I pumped my speed to 3.5 with quest & it works just fine 99% of the time. It is still electronic & has glitches. My wife & I both have 3Gs phones but she has more problems on hers than I do on mine. All in all it is great to have decent service.

-----
In regard to the Internet speed the best speed AT & T can provide me is 0.61 and microcell works great. Don't let them tell you otherwise. They are using this program to high pressure sell uverse. Just say no.
