iPhone, iTunes backup file

When you do a device backup, where does iTunes put it?

Is it a file somewhere that you could back up in turn?

Apple iPhone iTunesApple iPhone

- if using windows the location will be your user name/appdata/roaming/applecomputer/mobilesync/backup

Be sure you have allowed hidden files to be seen - go to control panel, classic view - choose folder options click on the View tab and under advanced about 6 lines down is a check box to view hidden files.

If you are using a Mac I apologize for the circuitous windows steps

-----

On the Mac:

~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

In Windows, I don't know.

-----

These folders are "hidden", so you will either have to enable them or manually type in the pathway.

For Windows:

I clicked open "My Computer" and manually typed in:

C:\Users\Your Account Name\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates

Alternatively, In iTunes, you hold the SHIFT key down while clicking RESTORE to browse for the location of the firmware update. (this did not work for my Vista computer since the folder is "hidden")

For MAC

%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

Alternatively, In iTunes you hold the option button on a Mac when clicking Restore to browse for the location of the firmware update.
