IPhone doesn't show up on iphoto

How to solve IPhone doesn't show up on iphoto?

Some times If you plugged iPhone into the mac iphoto would open and it would import all photos not previosly imported. But now no matter what you do the iPhone just will not show up on iphoto although it shows up on iTunes and syncs smoothly as before...

iphone iphoto
How to solve IPhone doesn't show up on iphoto?
1st.. check the settings in iPhoto > Preferences > General. If it already says Connecting camera opens: iPhoto, try changing it to something else then back again. If you did this to no avail... then

Maybe had a corrupt foto on your 3G that was preventing it from showing in iPhoto. You used a non Apple utility to delete the file. Afterwards, the 3G appeared as expected... but How to identify the corrupt photo?

Saved some photos received via email or MMS. Iphone would not show in iphoto. Once deleted all photos received by email or MMS on the phone, iphoto worked properly.

If we always had lots of photos received by email and never had a problem until now suddenly. Is there a programme which can identify the corrupted photographs?

Finally got around to doing what suggested. Here's what happened:

Created another user account. Fortunately iPhone appeared in iphoto there. Imported all the photos into iphoto and then to a folder on the desktop.

Then deleted originals on the iPhone. One photo refused to be imported and remained on the iPhone and deleted it manually - suspect that was the elusive delinquent. Then put the folder into shared user and then opened own user account and transferred it to my desktop. Now we shall have to laboriously transfer all the photos into iphoto.

iPhone and Windows 7

iPhone and Windows 7 don't play nice, Intel P55 chipset to blame

The iPhone is one of the most wildly popular phones the world has ever seen, while Windows 7 is well on its way to becoming the globe's most ubiquitous OS. So compatibility between the two would be kinda sorta important, right? Tell that to Intel's quality control team who seem to have somehow missed an issue between Apple's app carrier deluxe and the P55 Express chipset's USB controller. Consistent (and persistent) syncing issues have been reported on Apple's support forums, wherein iTunes on Windows 7 machines recognizes the iPhone, but spits out an "error 0xE8000065" message whenever the user attempts to sync. While some have found limited success with using PCI-based USB cards (and bypassing the chipset), this is clearly a major issue and something Apple would expect to be fixed before shipping its Core i5 / i7 iMacs, which are likely to sport the chipset.

iPhone windows
iphone girls windows 7
I just upgraded to Win7, and the physical sync with my iPhone went just fine. My computer isn't Intel, it's AMD/ATI.

I do have a bit of a problem though... I'm now getting errors that Outlook is not set to be my default mail client and thus my contacts and calendar data is apparently not syncing.

Well duh, it's not set to be my default mail client - BECAUSE I DON'T USE IT FOR EMAIL!

-----
I am running windows 7 on one of my laptops and when I plug my iPhone in to charge it, it "attempts" to sync just fine (Its not the primary machine I sync on)

It is only machines with Intel P55 chips running Windows 7.

My computer is an HP Pavilion Media Center m7690n.

My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium. It is a P55 chipset. My spouse's computer is a home-built system, also running W7 on a P55 chipset. Both of us have the max 2GB of RAM that can be utilized with the 32-bit version of Windows 7. The 32bit limit on RAM is 4GB, not 2. Well, technically it's 3.5ish GB.

We're having no problems at all - in fact, sync seems to have increased speed since we installed W7.

Perhaps the sync problem being experienced is a function of his computer's RAM?

-----
2 GB ram is not the upper limit of 32 bit W7, 3.5GB is ... of course to get 3.5GB usually means you have 4GB of chips but 3.5 is all any 32bit OS will activate.

I doubt RAM is the problem for the OP, because I received W7 Professional through my Microsoft EA quite some time ago and it is running on my desktop (4GB Ram) and laptop (1GB Ram) and can sync my iPhone and iPod fine. Based upon his description of what is occurring I would suspect an invalid state descriptor.

-----
Intel has said they are looking into the issue and think it might be a BIOS thing. Which would be an easy enough fix.

Windows Outlook to Windows Mail

Moving from Contacrs from Windows Outlook to Windows Mail

We are migrating our iphone from using Windows Outlook to a new computer using Windows Mail as the desktop repository for the Iphone Contact list.

1. I understand that if you just want a portion of your Windows Contacts to be on the iphone, you create a Group and point to that in Itunes sync,

2. I tried converting the Windows Outlook contact list to Windows Contacts but I did not get all the information to port over and I don't have the original Outlook file to do it again.

3. If I have an empty Contact Group in Windows Contacts, what happens the first time I sync?

-- Do my several hundered contacts on the iphone get wiped out by the empty Windoes contact group on my computer; or

-- Does my iphone contact info fill in the heretofore empty iphone contact group?

iphone email
iphone girls email
If you change the sync setting in iTunes you will be prompted with your option(s) - I believe the only one will be to replace the data on the iPhone or not. If you have a third party service such as MobileMe, Google, Yahoo, etc I think you would have the option to Merge, replace on the device, or replace on the server but if the data is either only on the iPhone or only on the computer it can only be replaced or not...

Google Local

iPhone - Google Local
For those of you using your phone in an unfamilar part of town, while traveling or just in generally might like the new Google Local - the only way to explain it is like having a built in GPS system in your car and searching for the closest whatever (American Restaurant or Walgreens Pharmacy) - you simply tell it what you want and then narrow down the results such as Restaurant then type and it displays ever one within a certain mile range.

iphone google
google girl iphone
The examples also give ways to plan upcoming trips by researching POIs, staring them, then using the "Starred Places" to pull them up and search through results when you are at your travel destination.

"To access these features on your mobile device, go to www.google.com/m/local, or just click on the Local tab on www.google.com.

The product is available in the US and China, with more regions coming soon."

-----
You came through to the list - and yes Google does (and has for quite a while) done local searches with zip code or city, state - the difference between that and Google Local is that not only do you need not enter or know the city/zip code, the results are in real time to your location whereas a zip code can cover a 5 sq mile area, the "local" searches can return results within half a mile of your current location via GPS...

If I simply bring up Google Maps on the iPhone, any enter "McDonalds", it shows me the 10 McD's nearest my location with the nearest one highlighted.

No "near", no Google Local....

-----
Out of all the apps that search for points of interest, I find the white pages app to be my favorite. It works great, bringing up the phone number, directions, map and it is a free app. I use it all the time!

Bizarre Headphone Problem

iPhone Headphone - Bizarre Headphone Problem
I have a 16G 3G. After a month or two of use, the volume on one of the earbuds (the side with the microphone) faded and died. So I went back to AT&T, and they replaced it. Happened again --- same side, same way. Got it replaced. This happened two more times, including one aftermarket set. I finally convinced Apple to give me a new phone. Well, you guessed it: it happened again.

I'll get this last set replaced again (phone is still under warranty), but does anyone have any ideas? This has happened both before and after the OS upgrade. Mostly, I have been using that Plantronics stereo bluetooth set that was on sale at Amazon a while ago, so it's not that huge a deal, but it bugs the crap out of me. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. BTW, the Apple "geniuses" are stumped.

It's happening with both the OEM buds and it happened with one aftermarket set. And the funny thing is that I am easy on my gear. The really weird part is that it is always the same side.

BTW, I have ruled out subjective and error factors, like maybe the problem is with my ear, maybe it's my imagination, maybe it's just the song, etc.

It's bizarre and baffling...

iPhone Headphone

.. What are you doing to the poor ear buds? I have the first pair of Apple ear buds from my first iPod Shuffle when they were first released that still work fine. If you have ruled out the iPhone (having an electrical) issue by having it replaced, I don't know what else to suggest.

I had to load them onto my regular iPod as they are huge.

Best Twitter App

Iphone - What Best Twitter App?
I've been sucked into the Twitter world for business reasons and I was wondering if anyone can recommend the best Twitter app. I did a search through the group archives but I didn't see anything.

iPhone Twitter
napier blog eddieseye iphone twitter
I've used nearly all of 'em, and the one I now rely on is TwitterFon Pro, but Tweetie comes in close second. TwitterFon Pro has a ton of features and a consistent interface that I just adore. ^_^

-----
I've tried several of them and I find Tweetie to be the best overall.

-----
Surprised you didn't find anything in the archives. It's been discussed numerous times.

My personal preference is Tweetie. I tried nearly all of them, but liked the serious drill down available in Tweetie.

-----
If you want free Twitterfon if you want paid Tweetie. My favorite Tweetie but not by much.

-----
You can't go wrong with Tweetie. I love the integration with InstaPaper.

-----
I like Tweetie and Twittelator. I had tried others, including some that are highly regarded by others (Twitterfon, anyone?) and found them lacking in some basic functionality.

I had initially settled into Tweetie but had to switch to something else because Tweetie was effected by the so-called "Twitpocalypse bug". New version that just showed up in my iTunes update check today says that is now fixed.

-----
Many of the reviews of the Twitter apps list a handful as being very good.

I've found that the look and feel of the apps is a big factor since everyone uses Twitter a little differently.

My point is that for these apps a lot of it will be personal preference so you might want to grab the free versions that are available for several of the apps to see if you like the interface, etc.

iphone ipod headset

iPod iPhone headset question
Is there a wireless headset that will work for both iphone functions and
iPod functions?

iphone headset
Sony Ericsson Headset for Ipod and Iphone
Currently, not without an adapter. Wait a few weeks for 3.0 (which enables Stereo Bluetooth capability) and the subsequent list of complaint products hit the shelves, t here is likely to be 10+ different choices whereas now you have to buy an adapter and a headset to get this to work.

Or "compliant" products even! :D.. Yes compliant would be a much better option than complaint ;). That's what I get for using a real keyboard.

iPod function doesn't work

iPhone - iPod function doesn't work
Issues with OS 3.4 ????

Has anyone else experienced any issues after upgrading to the newest OS 3.4 ?

Mine went smooth and everything worked fine. Then all of a sudden EVERY 3rd party app would not work. All the Apple apps that came with the iPhone still worked, email and the web.

Then ALL my songs and videos would not show up. They were listed as using space under the settings though.

I did a sync and that fixed everything. It was strange as everything worked fine at first.

iPhone iPod
hommage to my ipod shuffle by reae iphone ipod
I have not experienced this so far. The apps that would not run under 3.0B3 still won't run under 3.0B4. The apps that don't run properly are the ones I use the most. Just my luck!

-----

That's my luck too. So, I am not wasting my time running the betas
anymore.

I'll just wait until the public release of 3.0 is ready.

-----
So far, I'm not having any difficulties. Same apps work for me as with beta 3, same apps that didn't with beta 3, don't on beta 4. Solitaire City Lite (one of my favs) started working with beta 3 and continues to work. My kid's favorite, "Jelly Car" works great too.

Itouch batteries

iPhone - Itouch batteries

I have both iPhone and the touch. Lately I noticed that the touch's battery
hardly lasts a day. Anyone deal with this?

iphone itouch
Balck Scene hair iphone itouch
The batteries are limited to so many charge cycles before they can hold a full charge so if it is a 1st gen that you have used and charged a lot, the battery could be going. If you are on earlier (2.1 or previous) or beta firmware there could be bugs that are draining the battery. If you have it set to Fetch a frequently or many accounts it could be using power, if you have the brightness turned up and/or not auto, it could be using the battery, etc. There are some many possible configurations, we (assume all) would need more information to help. Personally my touch easily outlasts my phone because I have everything set to manual, brightness is slightly lower, and I don't use it nearly as much.

-----
Yeah, but my ipod didn't last that long either. Right now there's really nothing that can be done other than carrying the charger with you. That's the down side to this otherwise great product. Not being able to change the battery out with a spare scks.

iphone tv

tv on iphone

I've tried all the supposed tv apps, they are all disappointing. I worked for Sprint for a while, they have tv on thier phones, but it's disappointing, it reminded me of tv before cable, with a bad signal. I bought Cusoft DVD to Ipod software and I get dvd's of shows to tranfer to my Ipod, before you know it, you'll accumulate more shows than you can watch in a year.

iPhone TV
iPhone girl AP TV
I had Verizon's V-Cast for several months (I got it for the $15 unlimited data loop-hole opposed to a $50 data plan) before I got an iPhone and while not perfect, it's full length TV Show selection worked pretty well. I think if AT&T does improve it's network throughout the next year as they state they are going to they can start supporting high quality video, but it will never compare to having the media right on the device with no need to buffer.

Cannot Get Gmail

iphone e-mail - Cannot Get Gmail
Does anyone know of any reason why I would be getting this message- "Cannot Get Mail, The connection to the server "imap.gmail.com" failed.? I have been having trouble getting my mail on my phone lately due to getting this message. Any ideas?

iphone e-mail

You may be connected to a WiFi that is not working.

Turn off wifi and try through 3G.

-------
I don't know why, but I had the same problem. I logged into gmail on my computer using the same account I have set up on my iphone and it asked me to type in a captcha verification. I did that and it logged me in normally after that. Then my gmail account on my iPhone started working again.

-------
I have had the message come up, but it is usually intermittent, and often i am able to get to my mail seconds or minutes after getting that message. The one time that it was really persistant I got it to work again by deleting the account from my phone then creating it again.

-------
Make sure your GMail account has not somehow disabled IMAP access.

Sent while on the go, iPhone style

Also, log into your GMail account on a rehukar computer make sure it
is not locked and imap is enabled.

I've also found that if you try again moments later it works. However, if all else fails, change the password on your Gmail account (on a computer) then delete and re-set up your Gmail account on your iPhone. I had this happen and was out of business for a week or so until I found this tip on the Gmail blog.

e-mail software version

Iphone - email software version

I have created a gmail account in my new iPhone. In trying to figure it out, I learned the difference between IMAP and POP for incoming mail. The phone defaults to IMAP. However I want to use POP. There are instructions on the gmail site but when I try to follow them I am told to tap certain things but they are not there. The software they give instructions for are 1.1.2 and 1.1.3. Neither one works. How does one find out what email software version is on the phone and also, maybe someone has some experience with this issue??

iphone e-mail
e-mail iphone
Your iPhone is most likely on 2.2.1 or at the very least 2.0 so those instructions do not apply, they are for iPhone v1. If you want to use POP (have no idea why), you need to delete the account you have, then click 'Othher' instead of G-Mail then type pop.gmail.com in the incoming mail filed and select POP instead of IMAP on the setup screen. Username, Password, and outgoing server remain the same.

iPhone’s ShoutOUT- Speak your Twitter messages.

iPhone’s ShoutOUT: Speak your Twitter messages

Sounds interesting. ShoutOUT, the first voice-to-SMS application for iPhone users in the U.S., has been introduced today by Promptu Systems Corporation. It allows users dictate their text messages, check and correct messages, and delivered them as text messages or status updates to Twitter or Facebook.

iPhone’s ShoutOUT
Strawberry mputh girl woman lips shoutout iphone
"Today it's voice-to-SMS; tomorrow will be voice to any text application on the phone," said Giuseppe Staffaroni, Promptu's CEO. "Tweets to Twitter, email, Facebook status, calendar events, reminders - our technology is a perfect match. And, because it's server-based, and 100 percent automated - no humans behind the scenes - it is scalable to millions of users."

According to the news, ShoutOUT will soon be submitted to the iPhone App Store. The non-English version will also be distributed soon for iPhone users in Europe.

You can use Vilingo to create and send Tweets and it is free, works great
with your voice.

You can also use iProRecorder, but use iRec when you don't care about quality as it has buttons for GOOD BETTER and BEST recording quality..

MobileMe

Apple iPhone - MobileMe

Is mobile me Free or do you have to pay for it?

iPhone MobileMe
mobileme Apple iPhone
Pay for it

-----
You have to pay. It's about £60 per year here in the UK but I bought it off ebay for £18!

Being a web designer I have my own servers and FTP sites etc. but MobileMe just made it all easy.

-----
Is it really worth $99 for Mobile Me, if someone steals the phone, it doesn't seem like a several block radius of where the phone is will help. Opinions Please

-----
Well first of all you can get got $60 at amazon. But even at $60 if that is the only feature you would use it , probably not.

Transmitted at the speed of light from an iPhone 3GS - It is NOT "just a phone"

-----

There are already documented episodes (at least one) of successfully using Find My Phone to recover a lost/stolen iPhone.

"Several block radius" - depends on a)whether the phone is somewhere where the GPS receiver can see satellites (in which case it could be as good as a several YARD radius), and b)if dependent on cell towers or WiFi, how closely spaced they are.

-----
If you keep clicking to update, it gets to the block, and exact street. Never posted address though...

-----
Allows you to wipe handset. Also wireless sync data

-----
However, it's perfectly legitimate to buy a MobileMe membership from 3rd party sellers, like Amazon, where right ow they list it for the lowest price I have ever seen, $50.99

-----
Family pack is also $97.99 ~ $98 - that has up to 5 accounts, the only difference in the other 4 is the total storage space is 5GB instead of 20. If you know 3 or 4 others with iPhones who want to take advanced of the service, you could each pitch in $20 or possibly the other 4 pay a little less for the space and the 'primary' holder pays a little more for the 20GB of space. It is definately worth the reduced rates and especially if you can go in on a family pack with someone. The easy sharing of documents, photos, videos, push mail, and Find my iPhone.

-----
It is all part of it - you have to pay or find a kind person with a spare slot of their 'Family' pack.

You can always use Google Mobile Sync for contacts and/or calendars. E-Mail is not push yet, but keeps being brought up as 'soon'.

-----
I have Mobile Me and running out very soon. Would it work if I buy MMe from Amazon, instead of paying $100 to Apple. How does that work?

Yes it works the same, you receive a package in the mail with a "Redemption Code" - just like you receive when you buy it from an Apple Store or from store.apple.com, you enter code on your me.com account and it extends your expiration date by a year.

-----
The older versions work fine. I used a .Mac last year for my renewal.

Just one major point. Make sure you do it BEFORE your expiration date. Otherwise, it is possible Apple will hit your credit card or cancel your account. Unlikely, but possible!

-----
Turn off the auto renewal in your iTunes account if, you plan to buy a renewal elsewhere. IIRC, Apple auto renewed my account the first time like 45 days early. I have since turned it off for renewal.

The redemption code is the good, but the _if_ there is a CD or DVD, it may be an older one if you get the "old" version. My recent one, did not have the optical disc.

waterproof

iphone waterproof
Im headed to the beach for 2 weeks and I know water is the enemy of the iphone.I looked at several water cases. I was wondering what fine people here may have a water case they use all the time. I would like something easy to carry and something slim.

I want the ipod on the beach, i ll be in airplane mode..no calls no texts but
I want the music..
waterproof iphone
Waterproof iphone beautiful girls
Easiest way is ziplock bag to keep safe.. Ziplock bag with wire coming out top

It's not waterproof though... I know but will keep most of dirt out, you can waterproof, need 2 ziplock bags, one upside down and other opposite way, as long as you don't submerge will survive water spills and if bathroom with humidity.

__________

Or.. The "waterproof" cases that popped up for me on a quick Google search were $30-50.

If it was just for the music I'd just buy an iPod shuffle for the same price and not worry about it that much. If you are using Windows instead of Mac you may have cheaper music player options.

A reasonably good case to keep sand out of the dock and headset jack would be the iSkin revo. The case is silicone, padding around the corners, a hard plastic screen covering and 'flaps' which coer the dock hole and earphone jack. Your buttons and such are covered too.

For your purposes, this case should give you moderate protection and not look 'fugly'

:)

___
Or.. use an old style shuffle in an H2O Audio case and headphones. It worked great for about 6 months of heavy surfing and white water kayaking. It eventually got some salt water in it and you just replaced the shuffle by going on ebay. It's pretty nice toy but not for your phone until it's insurable against loss or water damaged.

Wi fi problems

Wi fi Problems

Why is it when I go into a place that has wi fi I can click on it but
when I go there the numbers and address is not in the setup boxes ?

Is that because it's unusable?

Do you get the pop up that asks if you want to join the network, or is it
just showing up that you are hooked to the connection? (Wi-fi signal in the
bar at top?)

I just check on my own I have the ask to join Off because it burns up my battery Asking to join all the networks.

I am just curious that sometimes when I go in a place I will check to see if they have wifi and if they do Why the info isn't there

iphone wi fi
wifi iphone
Little known fact turning the "ask to join" off, does not really save on the battery, only turning WiFi off does. Turning off the "ask to join" just keeps it from popping up, the WiFi radio is still scanning constantly for networks and connecting to any that have already been joined or have the same names as those that you have joined. For instance all Linksys routers by default are have SSIDs of 'linksys' if the user of the router does not secure their router and does not change the name of the SSID and you join one network with that name then come in contact with another with the same name, your phone will automatically join it regardless of if it is a different network or not. I learned this the hard-way was I accidently used one of my neighbors while walking the dog one time then my phone was joining every network with the same default name as I was driving to and from work, I was joining and leaving a network about every 1/4 of a mile - you would be amazed at how many unsecured 'linksys' WiFi networks there ;-).

Long story longer, if you really want to save on battery life turn WiFi OFF not just the "ask to join network" option.
_____
Or.. My guess is because you're tapping on the blue arrow before you join the network. Since you haven't joined the network yet, your iPhone does not yet have that data - it's assigned to the device when it joins the network.

Tap on the left side of the network name to join it. Then, when you have successfully joined, you can tap the blue arrow to see the network info.

Corruption of photographs

iphone photography problem
Some time after I download pics from the net I find that they get corrupted and a blurred image is seen. I cannot fathom why this should happen. Switching off the phone and restarting doesn't help.

Also it is peculiar that this happens to only some and not all of the images.

There is something very strange happening here: sometimes I download photos from the net and after a couple or weeks or so in my photo album the photo gets blurred. This don't happen to all of 'em just a few at random.

Corruption of photographs

That's a problem with firmware 2.2 and how it is displaying images. I've noticed the same thing with some images that I've downloaded from the web.

There's currently not a fix from Apple for it.

Put it in iTunes Ringtone section, make sure your iPhone Device > Ringtones tap is set to sync all ringtones or at least the ones you want and click sync.

You can also create your own ringtones with your music on Itunes and then download them in your Iphone ! :-)
