Google Voice app for iPhone hits the App Store

Apple iPhone - Official Google Voice app for iPhone hits the App Store

I have a Google Voice number that I never use. Can this feasibly be used instead of my AT&T number? I was just wondering because if it can, I could drop down to the absolute lowest plan that they have and save me some money.

Google Voice is NOT VoIP it is just a 'one number' forwarding service - if you use your GVoice # it just forwards the calls to your AT&T number. Now if you set Google Voice to use your GV # as the caller ID on calls, you can set it as one of your "Friends and Family" numbers and save minutes that way but Friends & Family isn't available unless you are on the 1400+ plan...

-----
I know I'm not ...but.....if you use Google voice...it counts towards your minutes, HOWEVER, if you have AT&T's friends list plan...you could conceivably circumvent it and add the Google number as one of your numbers and it wouldn't use your minutes. Hope that makes sense to you!

Can you please send a link to download the app? I looked it up I saw a few apps
not sure which one is the real one. Thanks :)

Here's the official Google App:

As the article said, you have to search by GOOGLEVOICE all one word for some odd reason

-----
To search for it in iTunes type in googlevoice all one word, though the App is Google Voice. Strange.

GV Connect & GV Mobile+

Apple iPhone apps - GV Connect & GV Mobile+
According to the App itself, GV Connect is NOT affiliated with Google or Google Voice. For more info, the app says to see the website http://homepage.mac.com/aamann/GV_Connect.htmlI've not thoroughly explored GV Connect and GV Mobile+ yet, but having a tough time with both. And, I can't really determine the functional difference. So far, I prefer the original HTML5 Google Voice.

GV Mobile+ may have solved the problem of trying to send multiple addressees a single SMS message.

GV Mobile
ihone apps GV Mobile
In the data entry screen for SMS for GV Mobile+ where one enters an addressee (from your contact list, NOT your GV Contact list), there is a + symbol which implies the user can add an addressee. Apparently, however, all it does is send you again to your Contact list and you may enter a different (NOT additional) addressee.

So, GV Mobile+ does NOT apparently have the capability to send the same Text message to multiple addressees.

Most other cell phone I'm familiar with permit multiple addressee for SMS messages, including those on AT&T.

CV Mobile + Issues??

Apple iPhone - CV Mobile + Issues??

Anyone get this to work yet? I can text..sure..but as for making calls? Um nope...i went to his forum...no answers there for me...

It asks me for my password several times [even though I changed it manually as he suggested]....then when I want to dial a number from my Google favorites or anywhere else, it wants me to type in the numbers.

Oh well...I'll keep playing with it...but as for now...I'm disappointed... :(

What is the problem? Do you have Google Voice set up with your iPhone number as one of your numbers? It works fine for me, dial number it rings phone and connects to other party. Offline mode uses the ,/pause system to dial through my GV # and place the call.

-----
I would like a little clarification too, in terms of minute use.

I downloaded the app, and I can make calls. But it shows up on my recent calls list through the regular iphone which makes me wonder if that call is using my minutes. Fine if it is, just curious.

I'm off to test whether or not I've properly transferred my google calls to ring through to my phone, which then brings me full circle - will minutes be billed to ATT?

-----
It worked for me. You setup account with username ( your gmail email) and password. If you mess up these then delete by swiping and reenter again

You need to set your phone you wish to use to call in settings> phone to ring and also forward calls to in settings

You can type in phone number on pad in dial or hit the person icon on pad to access your contacts.

Basically google voice does not use the wifi like on computer using google chat but connects to a phone in Michigan or somewhere which then connects to your iPhone and then dials the number on pad or contact chosen

You will incur minutes and charges as this is using AT&T

The person receiving the call will see your google number not your cell number

I have written one blog on the use of google voice and will add more as I learn more.

-----
Yes. It's set up on my phone. The pevious way worked well for me. I dial and it goes to my google voice mail. Which requires a password every time. Then it tells me if I want to place a call, please dial......

Mind u...this was after I clicked on my google favorite to call it.

-----
Yes. Minutes are being used. However, if you set it up where the Google number is on your 'favorites' list, then no additional minutes are being used. I know I didn't answer this clearly, but I'm sure someone else will chime in!

-----
My AT&T plan does not have favorites option so adding the google number to my favorites is not an option.

-----
I'm having good luck with GV mobile + as well. Works well with offline dialing enabled or disabled. With it disabled, the calls go through much faster if you don't mind a ring-back to connect. With offline dialing enabled it takes a while to do its auto-dialing routine "talking" to you all the while - you just have to wait it out and ignore it's request for a pin.

That mode tries my patience a bit, but it could be useful in a no-data or marginal-data performance situation.

Also, with offline dialing disabled, my outgoing caller ID is the google voice number. With offline dialing enabled, it sends the number of whatever phone I'm using.

Google voice

AAple iPhone - Google voice

When I call a number using google voice my iPhone dials the same number each time to route the call. So, if I add that number to my at&t a-list would I actually be making these calls for free?

Google Voice

Correct

So do I have to have a pre existing Google voice account. To set up Google voice on the iPhone. How do you go about getting one. I heard it was by invite only.

Also is it GV Mobile + or GV Connect. GV Mobile + seemed a little confusing.

-----
You have to have a Google Voice account, it is open for everyone in the US now (no more invites) - simply go to google.com/voice and sign up for a number - you do need a GMail / Google Account to sign up.

GV Movile + is the better product that has been around for quite some time, it was in the app store, Apple pulled it due to AT&T request and they adjusted the 'rules' and let them back in - GV Connect only came out a few days before GV Mobile + made it back to the legit App store. If you wait until Saturday, you can get it for free (this is the day designated for those who bought version before it was pulled or from Cydia so that they don't have to buy it twice but technically, everyone can download it).

-----
Okay -- I have a GMail account and tried signing up for Google Voice but kept getting the error message: "We had an error. Please try later." I began checking the Internet and it seems this problem has a long history. Google support said as far back as June 2010 they were working on the problem. It is now the end of September. How much longer are they going to be working on the problem? Anyone else having a problem signing up?

-----
I just created a new test gmail account and then signed up for GVoice without an issue.

-----
I signed up a few days ago without a problem, using the 'vanity' phrase as phone numbers in my area code were not available.
